Just mentioning Switzerland, we would immediately be imagining Swiss chocolate, a Swiss watch, Swiss Alps, Swiss cheese, and a Swiss army knife.

Other than those amazing inventions, Switzerland has amazing sceneries that are the best ones in the world.

It has been a travelling spot for many tourists and is also known as the only neutral country in the world.

Let’s take a look at the wonderful cities in Switzerland that are waiting for you.

Travel Requirements to Switzerland

Switzerland's Federal Office of Public Health constantly updates its website for the public to know any changes or information related to Covid – 19. Make sure to check the travel advisories before booking a flight to Switzerland.

Based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, Singaporeans that will be travelling to Switzerland are permitted to enter without having to undergo self-quarantine when they arrive in Switzerland. However, travellers are required to fill up an entry form which can be filled up online.

Once the form is submitted, a QR code will be emailed to the designated email address.

Upon arrival, the authorities will be requested to check these QR codes.

Note:

Failure to present the code or failure to fill up the entry form, travellers can be fined up to CHF 100.
The same fine will be imposed if the form is filled up with the wrong information too.

For vaccinated travellers:

The list of vaccines that is allowed by the country is Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen / Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac, and also COVAXIN.
Those who took a mixture of vaccines need to make sure that the vaccine mixture is of vaccines that have been approved by the EU and Switzerland authorities or are in the list of vaccines approved by WHO.
They would also need to make sure they have followed the time frame required to be quarantined after the vaccination.
These vaccinations also need to be documented in a certified certificate form. Information such as full name, date of birth, proof of vaccination as well as the date of vaccination and the brand of the vaccine need to be available in the certificate as well.

For unvaccinated travellers:

They will still need to complete the entry form and present a negative Covid test result, which they later need to retake after self-observation of 4 – 7days after entry.

What to know about the SwissCovid app

The Swiss government has created this app to better assist in contact tracing.
It is used to check-in, especially when there is a large gathering or get together such as meetings, auditoriums and canteens.
Organisers of events are able to generate a QR code for their guests to scan upon arrival and to note that they have left the location.
If there is contact with anyone that has been tested positive, the app will be able to notify the user.
Users can also alert their close contact at a certain place anonymously.
If alerted as close contact, the app will be able to recommend steps needed to be taken, such as taking the Covid test, informing other close contact persons and also self-observe.

Flying Information to Switzerland

The flight duration will take around 15 hours and 57 minutes in total from Singapore to Switzerland.

Depending on location in Switzerland, it is also possible to reach Switzerland in 12 hours and 50 minutes. This would require travellers to land in the capital, which is Zurich. Landing in other cities such as Geneva or Basel would mean a longer travel time.

However, travellers that prefer to save some money may also opt for two modes of transportation.

Fly to Milan

Upon arrival, take a train to Switzerland. This is due to the fact that Italy is located in the south of Switzerland. Therefore, there is land transportation available.
This alternative will take around 17 hours and 48 minutes to get to Switzerland.
Travellers also may land in Munich, but the total travel time, including the train ride, would take up to 20 hours and 30 minutes.

Fly to Friedrichshafen (Germany)

From there, there is a ferry available to get to Switzerland. Some may prefer this method as the scenery is very beautiful.
It only takes 41 minutes for the ferry to cross over the lake. Many would enjoy a cup of coffee while enjoying the relaxing ferry ride with the view of the wintry lake.
This option has been known to have a shorter distance as cars would need to go around the lake where the ferry would be able to just cross it.
It is also very cheap to take the ferry from Friedrichshafen to Switzerland. It will cost only 4.80 € to 5.00 € for one person.

Major airlines providing routes to Switzerland from Singapore are Swiss Airline, Singapore Airlines, Finnair, Turkish Airlines, Air France and a few others.

Flights will depart from Changi Airport and make a direct flight to Zurich. Direct flight may cost around 488 Singapore Dollars to 636 Singapore Dollars depending on the dates. Peak season will definitely make flight prices more expensive.

Otherwise, travellers will need to take connecting flights.

Some of the airlines that operate as such are Emirates, Finnair, Turkish Airlines, Scoot +, Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines, and a few more other airlines.

However, these airlines usually will have transit in some countries or have a connecting flight to continue to the destination.

Therefore, the time taken to reach Switzerland will be slightly longer. The prices, on the other hand, may cost around 400 SGD and up to 900 SGD.

Major Cities in Switzerland

Lucerne

Lucerne or Luzern has been one of the top destinations in Switzerland that attracted both local and international visitors. Most of the visitors would even spend a couple of days just to enjoy the city.

There are many types of hotels that are available here suitable for any budget. This is due to the fact that every summer, tourists would come and spend several days exploring the city.

The city of Lucerne is located at the north end of Lake Lucerne, and River Reuss flows out of the lake.

Due to the long history of the city, the mediaeval influence can clearly be seen throughout the city. It remains preserved well until today. The historic buildings remain as majestic as they used to back in the day.

The city has been an annual location for the summer music festival thanks to its beauty and the gorgeous Lake Lucerne. Visitors would come and enjoy an orchestra with conductors, soloists together with piano and marching bands performed at the festival.

One of the landmarks of Lucerne would be the Chapel Bridge or Kapellbrücke. It is a wooden bridge that is covered that runs diagonally across the Reuss.

Built in 1333, it has been the home for more than 100 pieces of 17th-century pictures that depict patron saints and also scenes from the town's history. It hangs from the roof rafters.

In 1993, the chapel was badly damaged by a fire that spread across the town. It has been restored and rebuilt since then to maintain the historical integrity of the chapel.

Next to the chapel is an octagonal Wasserturm or water tower that is 34 metres high. It used to be the town’s fortress too.

These two landmarks happen to be the most photographed scene in all of Switzerland. Tourists can walk around the town because most of the attractions there are within walking distance.

Zurich

The largest city in Switzerland is Zurich, and it is also the capital of canton Zurich.

There is also a breathtaking lake that is long and has a shape of a crescent, and curves into Pfannenstiel and Albis. 40 kilometres long, it is definitely an attraction to Zurich all on its own.

What's more, the water quality in the lake is so clean that swimming is allowed in the designated area.

Notes:

Frauenbad in Stadthausquai is the section for women only, while Schanzengraben is for male-only.
Both are located at the centre and are good for those who wish to take a dip, especially during the summer.
While at night, there are bars and eateries for those looking for activities at night while overseeing the lake.

Another attraction of Zurich city would definitely be the history.

District 1 of the city has most of the historical centres. The streets of Altstadt have a lot of buildings that are from the mediaeval era and also modern ones.

It happens to be where many would come to shop, enjoy the nightlife and experience the culture of the locals.

Getting lost in this area might allow you to stumble upon a gem that may not be included in any travel guide.

There may also be historical monuments from the mediaeval church to 17th century Town Hall. It is a city waiting to be explored.

While the city holds many historical buildings and monuments, it is still following the current lifestyle where the city would hold a street parade every second Saturday of August.

One of the world's biggest electronic parties is held on the streets of Zurich.

A parade that has been going on since 1992 has grown larger each year. There will be sound systems set up with the number of DJs ready to play a different set of songs.

By heading to a different part of the city, you will be entertained by a different type of music. Definitely an experience that cannot be found anywhere else.

Bern

Located in the northwest of the country, Bern has been around for almost a thousand years. It is currently the capital of Switzerland.

Just like other parts of Switzerland, Bern is also one of the highest cities in Europe. It is 542 metres above sea level. Despite the elevation, the city was once damaged by fire back in 1405. It has been rebuilt with sandstone and is preserved to this very day.

The old town has also been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city has many Renaissance-era fountains.

There is also a Rose Garden with 220 different types of rose, 200 types of irises and 28 types of rhododendrons. What used to be a cemetery has now become a public park with beautiful flowers and ponds.

The whole city is very serene and peaceful. It is a city waiting for people to dive into and learn about the history that can be dated back to the 15th century.

Another great attraction of Bern would be the house that Albert Einstein used to live in. The house located on a charming street was rented by him from 1903 to 1905.
