A museum in the city centre, the Old Melbourne Gaol operated as a prison back in 1842 to 1929 and was the site of the execution of many of Australia’s prolific criminals (think Ned Kelly and Frederick Bailey Deeming).
The gaol has seen 133 hangings, and get this: a skull, believed to be Ned Kelly's, was on display in the museum until it was stolen from a glass cabinet.
