Battling White Walkers in Westeros. Untangling the mysteries of the Upside Down in Hawkins, Indiana. Hanging out with Archie and gang over milkshakes at Pop’s Diner.

Sometimes there’s nothing better after a long workday than to come home, get cozy and log on to Netflix. We often lose ourselves in the fictional worlds of the TV shows and movies we watch, but did you know that Netflix also has a refreshing selection of fun and informative travel shows and documentaries in its catalog?

Yep, when it comes to #travelinspo, you won’t need to look any further than your nearest laptop/mobile phone. Tune in to these shows:

British comedian Jack Whitehall is determined to go on the epic Gap Year he never got to experience – with his straight-laced father Michael in tow. Things go as well as you’d expect and you’ll cry-laugh as you watch Jack and Michael’s hijinks while they fumble through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, at the same time attempting to strengthen their father-son bond.

This classic culinary show was what kickstarted my love of international cuisines and inspired foodies around the world. Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain not only samples local dishes and picks up cooking techniques from the best, he also throws himself into the culture. In Season 1, you’ll get to see him shopping for fresh fish at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo and trying durian for the first time in Phnom Penh.

In what Ricky Gervais calls “the funniest, most expensive practical joke I’ve ever done”, he sends his bumbling, simple-minded friend Karl Pilkington on a dream trip to see the world.

In what is basically a sociological experiment, Gervais hopes to test the theory that “travel broadens the mind” by throwing Karl into outlandish situations, like learning how to become a cowboy in Mexico and trying to fit in with an indigenous tribe in Peru. There are three seasons worth of hilarity to go through, so better get started!

In ‘What About Me?’, you’ll follow them on their journey to over 50 locations across five continents as they record vocals and music from international artists of various genres.

In this Korean reality TV-style show (also known as ‘Where Is My Friend’s Home’), the international panelists from the show ‘Abnormal Summit’ welcome their castmates to their home countries and show them around. Aimed at being casual and having a homestay vibe, the cast stays in the family home of the hosting cast member. Covering countries like China, Nepal, Italy and France, the show also addresses common misperceptions and prejudices about the countries visited.

This show’s for all you animal lovers. The two-part documentary, led by British actor Martin Clunes, attempts to uncover the ever-changing relationship between man and animal. In Japan, he visits a dog cafe where pets are treated like family members and the working partnership between a Thai farmer and his coconut-picking monkey.

Somebody Feed Phil

This Netflix original follows Phil Rosenthal, the creator of popular sitcom ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, as he eats his way around the world and makes new friends with locals. His awkward, deadpan humor makes the experience all the more entertaining. As Phil says, “If you like a food, go to the source.” So what are you waiting for?

We know it’s not enough to just sit at home and watch everyone else have all these adventures, so check out Traveloka’s hotel and flight selection to embark on your own journey of discovery!
