Sembawang God of Wealth Temple (San Ba Wang Cai Shen Miao) is a Taoist temple dedicated to Cai Shen, the Chinese God of Wealth. Located on Admiralty Street, it is the only temple in Singapore dedicated exclusively to this popular deity, attracting worshippers who pray for prosperity, success, and good fortune.

The temple is best known for its giant golden statue of the God of Wealth, believed to be the largest of its kind in the world. Besides the main shrine, the temple complex also includes several other Taoist temples relocated from nearby kampung areas, making it an important spiritual and cultural destination in northern Singapore.

Even from street level, the golden God of Wealth figure is an impressive sight. It's a favourite for photographers and a genuinely unusual landmark by Singapore standards.

Devotees visit to seek blessings for career growth, business success, and general good fortune. Visitors are welcome to observe respectfully or take part themselves.

Wander through the ornate roof carvings, dragon motifs, and gold accents in the main hall. Then pop next door to the smaller Matsu and Qing Shui Zu Shi shrines for contrast.

Plan around the God of Wealth's birthday, usually the fifth day of Chinese New Year, for the liveliest atmosphere. On this occasion, the upper floor housing the statue is sometimes opened to the public.

The temple grounds are generally accessible to the public daily, with the main prayer hall typically open from around 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, though hours can shift slightly during major festivals, so it's worth checking ahead if you're visiting around Chinese New Year. 

Admission is free, as with most Taoist temples in Singapore, though a small donation towards the upkeep of the temple is always appreciated. Note that the upper floor housing the giant statue is usually closed to the public and only opened on special occasions, most notably the God of Wealth's birthday celebrations.

For a peaceful, unhurried visit, aim for a weekday morning when the temple is at its quietest and the light is good for photos. If you're after atmosphere over solitude, Chinese New Year is the standout time to go, particularly the fifth day of the lunar new year. 

At that moment, the temple hosts its liveliest celebrations and the courtyard fills with devotees seeking blessings for the year ahead. Just be prepared for crowds and limited parking if you visit during this period. 

Outside of festival season, late afternoon on a clear day is ideal, giving you good light on the golden statue without the midday heat. 

The easiest way to reach the temple is via public transport:

By MRT: Take the North-South Line to Sembawang MRT Station. Head towards Exit C (towards Sun Plaza), and walk to the bus stop located at Opp Sun Plaza (Bus Stop ID: 58259). Hop on Bus 962 and ride for 5 stops. Alight at the Bef Acacia Hme bus stop, and the temple is just a 2-minute walk from there. 

By car/taxi: If you're driving, take the Seletar Expressway (SLE) or Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Admiralty Road West / Sembawang Drive. Roadside parking is available nearby, though it can get tight during festivals. 

By bike: Cyclists can ride from Sembawang MRT Station along Sembawang Road and Admiralty Road East, about a 15-20 minute ride.

A few small preparations go a long way toward a smooth, respectful visit.

Dress modestly and keep your voice down inside the prayer hall. It's an active place of worship, not just a photo stop.

Have cash ready for donations or joss sticks. Digital payment isn't always available on-site.

The courtyard can get slippery after rain. Wear sensible, non-slip footwear.

A restored colonial-era bungalow within Sembawang Park, once part of the British naval base. It now houses a seafood restaurant with waterfront views. 

Handy stops for a coffee break, some shopping, or a hawker meal. Both are a short ride from the temple. 

Sembawang itself has no hotels directly on its doorstep, so most visitors base themselves a short MRT ride away or at the nearest resort-style property in neighbouring Yishun.
