Acropolis of Athens

One of the best destinations to experience the Greek legacy is visiting Athens's Acropolis.

The Acropolis has more than 20 major archaeological remains at this 3-hectare site, including the Parthenon, Old Temple of Athena, Athena Nike Temple and Theatre of Dionysus, which have been recovered and open to public visitors.

It also hosted the Great Panathenaea festival every four years back in the old-time, similar to the festival of the ancient Olympic Games.

Acropolis Museum

At the southeast of the Acropolis Hill, near the Parthenon, lies the Acropolis Museum.

The uniqueness of the Acropolis Museum is that it only displays the remnants recovered from the Acropolis site and none from elsewhere.

Some insightful exhibits that you should not miss include the statues of Nike, Alexander the Great, Artemis Brauronia and Hermes, in addition to stone-carvings recovered from the Athena Nike Temple and Parthenon.

The Acropolis Museum is also home to research activities involving conservation of artefacts, application of new technologies for preservation works and documentations.

The old residential houses were well maintained and can still be seen till today.

The iconic feature of Plaka is Anafiotika, a neighbourhood featuring typical Cycladic architecture of small, cubic, white traditional houses decorated with blooming bougainvillaea flowers.
