When city life in Singapore starts to feel like a fast-spinning wheel, I know it's time to hit pause. That’s exactly what I did last weekend. I packed an overnight bag and escaped to one of the best farm stays in Johor. What I found was more than just relaxation, it was a refreshing connection with nature, animals, and peace.

In this guide, I’ll provide you with the best farm stay Malaysia, where you can indulge and visit on your day off. Let’s delve deeper into this article!
Booking a room at Sinar Eco Resort has never been a regret in my life. I know living in Singapore has many perks, but let’s face it. I need space, and serenity isn’t always part of the package. I had been dreaming of a place where I could breathe fresh air, hear roosters crow in the morning, and fall asleep to the sounds of nature. And Sinar Eco Resort can provide that. It offered everything I was looking for in a farm stay Malaysia experience: animals, greenery, cosy accommodation, and fun activities.
I booked a Standard Chalet, which cost me RM280 per night (about SGD 80), including breakfast. They also offer other options like family rooms and dormitory-style stays, perfect for larger groups or weekend retreats. The BBQ dinner was particularly memorable. I joined a group dinner organised by the resort (RM 40 per person or SGD 13), where we grilled chicken wings, sausages, and fish over open flames. It was a great way to meet other travellers and enjoy good food after a day of adventure.
To get here from Singapore is only about 90 minutes. Sinar Eco Resort is located in Pulai, Johor, and getting there was surprisingly simple. I took a bus from Singapore to JB Sentral (only about 30 minutes after clearing customs at the Woodlands checkpoint) and then grabbed a ride-hailing straight to the resort. The drive from JB Sentral to the resort took around 45 minutes. If you're driving from Singapore, just key in “Sinar Eco Resort” on Maps, cross the border, and follow the North-South Expressway.

After a hectic few weeks in Singapore, I craved quiet and open space. I searched for a farm stay Malaysia option that wasn’t too far and came across Talula Hill Farm Resort. I decided to book a weekend trip to see it for myself, and now I’m convinced it’s one of the best escapes in southern Malaysia.
Talula Hill Farm Resort is located in Kulai, Johor, nestled in the Gunung Pulai area. Getting there from Singapore was simple. I took a bus to Johor Bahru CIQ, then booked a Grab straight to the resort. The drive took about 1.5 hours from the checkpoint. If you’re driving, just head toward Gunung Pulai, and you’ll find signs for Talula Hill along the way.
If you want a smoother ride, especially if you’re carrying luggage or travelling with kids, hiring a private car from Singapore to Kulai is also a great option.
I stayed in their Standard Hilltop Room, which cost me RM320 per night (around SGD 95). While that’s slightly more than other farm stays I’ve tried, the view alone made it worth every cent. My room had large glass windows that opened up to a panoramic view of the hills, and I could hear birdsong from my bed.

Star Fish Leisure Farm is my escape when I started craving something quieter and closer to nature. What made it even more appealing was that it’s one of the few farm stay Malaysia spots that offer both an authentic countryside experience and comfortable modern amenities. It felt like the perfect recipe for a peaceful weekend.
Getting to Star Fish Leisure Farm was surprisingly easy. It’s located in Kota Tinggi, Johor, just about a 90-minute drive from the Singapore Woodlands checkpoint. I crossed over to Johor Bahru by bus and then took a Grab ride directly to the farm. The entire trip cost me less than SGD 30.
For those driving, you’ll find it an easy and scenic ride once you’re out of the city. Just search “Star Fish Leisure Farm” in Maps, and you’ll get directions right to the entrance. Parking is available and free.
I stayed in a standard room, which was clean, air-conditioned, and equipped with basic amenities. The price? Only RM 240 per night or SGD 73, including breakfast and access to most of the farm’s activities. For a farm staycation, it was incredible value.
They also organise campfires and BBQ sessions if you’re staying overnight. I joined a group BBQ that night (RM 40 per person or SGD 13), and it was a feast! Fresh fish, chicken wings, corn, and sweet potatoes grilled to perfection.

During my weekend escape to Y & L Hobby Farm, it is a charming little countryside hideaway in Pontian, Johor. If you're looking for a simple, no-frills farm stay in Johor where you can relax, reconnect with nature, and experience kampung life, this is it.
Plus, it’s incredibly budget-friendly. I paid just RM150 per night (which is about SGD 43), making it one of the most affordable farm staycation choices I’ve found in Johor.
Y & L Hobby Farm is located in Pontian, a small town in southwestern Johor, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours’ drive from Singapore, depending on traffic. I took a bus from Singapore to Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru, then booked a Grab ride to the farm. It cost me around RM65 (about SGD 19) for the ride-hailing, and it was a smooth trip through palm oil plantations and quiet backroads.
Speaking of meals, Y & L Hobby Farm doesn’t have a restaurant, but they serve home-cooked meals if you request them in advance. I paid RM25 (SGD 7.20) for a simple dinner of rice, sambal eggs, stir-fried kangkung, and grilled chicken. It tasted like something your Malaysian grandma would cook, full of flavour and made with love.
Breakfast the next morning was just as satisfying: kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and a strong cup of local coffee while watching the sun rise over the banana trees. If you're driving from Singapore, just key in “Y & L Hobby Farm” in Waze or Google Maps. Parking is free, and the roads are in good condition.
