If you’re headed to Bali, navigating Ngurah Rai International Airport is your first step to a smooth trip. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been here before, knowing the ins and outs of the airport can save you time and hassle.
We've covered everything you need to know, from getting through customs to accessing the lounges. Let’s get started!
When you touch down at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), you’ll find yourself in the International Terminal. Head over to the Departures area, and you’ll come across 62 check-in counters waiting to get you sorted, along with 10 boarding gates for your flight.
The terminal is laid out in an ‘L’ shape across three floors: Arrivals on the ground floor, Departures on the first, and all the extra facilities on the second floor.
If you pop across Festival Plaza, you’ll end up at the Domestic Terminal, where you can catch flights to other parts of Indonesia. It’s just southeast of the International Terminal.
The Domestic Terminal is spread over two floors: the ground floor for Arrivals and the first floor for Departures and facilities. There are also 62 check-in counters and 8 boarding gates to help you get on your way.
When you land at the airport, you can grab a Visa On Arrival (VOA) by hitting one of the 20 counters on the ground floor. You can get a 30-day visa for USD 35, so have some U.S. dollars on hand. Also, ensure you’ve got an onward or return ticket, as it’s a must.
Next, you must complete a Customs Declaration (CD). You can do it online through the Electronic Customs Declaration (ECD) system at ecd.beacukai.go.id. You can fill it out up to 2 days before you arrive in Bali, so it’s a good idea to get it done early to skip any last-minute stress.
Just fill out the form on the website, and you’ll get a QR code sent to your email or available for download. When you arrive, show this QR Code to the Customs and Excise officers in the Customs Area.
Grabbing your bags at Ngurah Rai International Airport is simple. After immigration, follow the signs pointing you towards the baggage claim area. If the airport’s a bit packed, you might have to wait a while, so it’s worth keeping your cool and being patient.
When your luggage turns up, just grab it from the carousel. If you carry extra oversized items or more than one fancy bottle of alcohol, you’ll have to shell out for taxes. So, unless necessary, you might want to leave those at home.

The airport has two lounges: the Premier Lounge and the Concordia Lounge. These are the details of those lounges:
Location: Second floor of the International Terminal.
Access: This is for passengers on international flights to Ngurah Rai International Airport only.
Open: Daily except Nyepi Day.
Facilities: Showers, spa, premium food buffet, flight info monitor, drinks, Wi-Fi, and more.
Payment: Pay at the door or use lounge membership.
Location: First floor of the Domestic Terminal.
Access: For economy class passengers only.
Open: Daily except Nyepi Day.
Facilities: Drinks, Wi-Fi, flight info monitor, newspapers, TV, etc.
Payment: Pay at the door or use lounge membership
If you’re heading to the city centre from the airport or the other way round, you can choose from several options including bus, taxi, or app-based taxi.
Official airport taxis are available 24/7 just outside the terminal. You can book and pay at the taxi counter inside the airport. Fares are fixed, and prices depend on your destination (e.g., Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud).
Alternatively, metered taxis are available outside the airport area. You may need to walk to the nearby parking lot or call one via the app for pick-up.
If you want your reaching-and-leaving the airport to feel way easier, you can choose to get an online taxi with a ride-hailing app. Several ride-hailing apps in Bali are already so popular, and surely professional.
While airport pick-up restrictions exist, you can book a ride from designated pick-up points. Follow the airport signage or app instructions to find the pick-up zone. Using these apps is typically cheaper than official taxis.
The Sarbagita public bus service connects the airport to some parts of Bali, including routes to Nusa Dua and Batubulan. However, schedules are limited, and it's not the most convenient option for travellers with a lot of luggage.
Many hotels and resorts in Bali offer private airport transfers for guests, mostly with a shuttle. Hence, it’s time to take advantage of it. Be sure to arrange this in advance if you're staying at a resort.
This option is the best one if you prefer to have a private vehicle through your time in Bali. Car rental services are available at the airport if you prefer to drive yourself. Anyway, you can either rent a car with a driver or self-drive. If you want to drive yourself, make sure you have the International Driving License / Permit.
Want to be more adventurous? You can book an ojek (motorbike taxi) from a ride-hailing app. Of course, this only applied best on solo travellers or those carrying minimal luggage.
You probably want to know the nearest tourist spots from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Here’s some of the famous ones:
Free to enter, Bali Bomb Memorial Park is a tribute to a tragic event in Bali’s history: the 2002 Bali bombings. You can see the names of the 202 people who lost their lives during the bombing engraved on a large stone monument. Despite being located in the centre of Kuta, the park feels like a quiet place. It’s a perfect place to reflect while honouring the victims.
Another place that is free to enter, Kuta Beach is one of Bali’s most famous beaches. The golden sand really matches the sunset. It’s a perfect beach for those of you that search for a lively atmosphere, with the sea view so amazing.
It’s also heaven for all-level surfers. If you want to try it, you can rent a surfboard or even take the lessons right on the shore. Search for delicious seafood at the nearest restaurants or relax on the sand, wait for the sun to come down. It will be a superb experience.

Ah, of course, it’s impossible to skip this one of the most famous landmarks in Bali. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (also known as GWK) is a place for the iconic 121-metre statue of Vishnu riding Garuda.
Around the statue, you can search for some cultural performances, art exhibits, or shows for traditional dance. It’s a lovely place to visit anytime, as long as the weather is not too hot.

Lastly, there’s also another recommended beach to visit near Ngurah Rai International Airport. It’s Nusa Dua Beach, famous for its tranquil atmosphere. Whatever you want to do, whether it’s snorkelling, swimming, or sunbathing, you can do it comfortably here, as the ambience in Nusa Dua Beach is way more calm than Kuta Beach.
