Considered one of the paragons of Singapore’s coffee scene, if you’re looking for a reliably good cup of coffee and you’re not sure where to look, Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR) is a safe bet.

Their beans are sourced from all around the world, and they closely collaborate with growers to ensure the best possible quality. Besides the seasonal blends, they also have two house blends: CMCR Espresso and 22 Martin. The former is a light 3-origin blend from Sumatra, Brazil, and Ethiopia, while the latter is a darker, heavier roast.

If you’re feeling peckish, you’re in luck: CMCR’s brunch is among the best Singapore has to offer. Try the Turkish Common Man Breakfast or the Common Man Fluffy Pancakes.

Be sure to visit Grounded by CMCR, a separate space located above the café – its seating area offers a more chilled-out al fresco setting.

Do you prefer your coffee with a side of vibrant art pieces? Then Artistry is the place to be – in addition to brewing some great coffee, the café operates as an art gallery showcasing Singaporean artists and as a community space for events and performances.

Situated in a quiet corner of the popular heritage district of Kampong Glam, Artistry sources its beans from local roaster Liberty Coffee, with an ever-changing range of blends, depending on the season. However, the Speakeasy blend – a medium-bodied, nutty blend of Brazilian and Jamaican beans – is a clear crowd-favorite.

Food-wise, their signature dishes include the Chilli Crab Burger and the Peanut Butter and Jelly-stuffed French Toast.

In a bid to stand out from the slew of cafés springing up, more and more coffee joints are becoming a fusion of something else, e.g. book cafés, art cafés. Now there are flower cafés: where coffeehouse meets greenhouse.

Stamping Ground Coffee is one such iteration – it shares a space with Dawn Q Floral Design, and the homey combination of freshly-ground coffee and cheerful blooms is a perfect way to start your day.

Their beans are sourced from local roaster Papa Palheta, as well as Melbourne’s Rumble Coffee Roasters. Blends are frequently rotated, so you may detect a slight change in the taste of your coffee the next time you visit.

Try their cold brew, a concentrate meant to be mixed with milk, fresh coconut water, or fresh almond milk.

If you’re a coffee connoisseur, then you’ve probably heard of famed roasteries Dukes Coffee Roasters and Market Lane Coffee, based in the world’s coffee capital, Melbourne.

Short of flying out to Australia, however, the only way you’ll be able to get a taste is by dropping by Candour Coffee, which imports directly from both.

If you’re lucky, you may even be able to try a blend from other world-famous roasters, such as London’s Square Mile Coffee or Hong Kong’s Cupping Room.

Other than its coffee, Candour’s peaceful ambience and service with a smile is sure to make you want to stay for “just one more…” cup.

We wouldn’t blame you if you walked right past Chye Seng Huat Hardware (CSHH), mistaking it for your run-of-the-millappliance shop. In fact, the building used to be an actual hardware shop before it was renovated into a café. Despite its outward appearance, it’s actually one of Singapore’s most well-known hipster joints.

Run by the folks at Papa Palheta as their flagship store, the building houses the Roastery and CSHH Coffee Bar, Singapore’s one and only 360-degree island coffee bar, where you can watch the masters at work and interact with baristas as they expertly prepare your coffee.

Upstairs at the second level, you can learn more about the art of making coffee and test out state-of-the-art coffee gadgets and machines at the C-PlatForm.

CSHH’s cold brew is a must-try, as it’ll quell any thirst on a hot sunny day, and the food is sure to satisfy a rumbling tummy.
