If you’re a pursuer of underwater adventure, then this island is meant for you. Pulau Tenggol is one of Malaysia’s diving and snorkeling heaven hidden along a string of islands off the coast of Terengganu, with neighbors such as Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang dotting the sea.

Its sandy white beaches, clear water, beautiful beds of corals, and colorful fishes are sure to mesmerize both ardent divers and newbies alike. The only downside is, the amenities available on the island are very limited and accommodation is at best, basic. But we think this makes for an awesome short getaway choice to unplug from daily stresses and recharge while getting connected to Mother Nature!

If salty sea water is not your thing, then why not look to Malaysia’s beautiful rainforests for a good mind-detoxing session? Taman Negara, or the National Park, spans three states across Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu – over 4,000 square kilometers.

It’s well known for its dense tropical rainforests and a very rich ecosystem. Taman Negara is home to a vast variety of flora and fauna, including endangered animals such as the Malayan tiger and the Asian elephant. Amongst other activities you can partake in are bird watching, park excursions, night walks, and a trek down the 530-meter long suspended canopy walkway to get a good view of the rainforest from above the treetops! At the end of the trip, you’ll definitely emerge a much more refreshed version of yourself, ready to conquer life again!

For the hipsters at heart, speak no more, we’ve got you covered. Get your passport and your overnight bag ready, and head to Singapore! If you’re into artisanal cups of joe, vintage everything, trendy eateries and gourmet bakeries, some of Singapore’s old-turned-hip neighborhoods such as Jalan Besar, Haji Lane, Tiong Bahru, Keong Saik, and the latest trendy hangout,Everton Park, have all the elements that make Instagram-worthy photos!

On top of that, be sure to check out some of Singapore’s popular local hawker food (such as the Michelin-starred chicken rice!) which are easily found in food courts. Definitely a great weekend getaway to feed the artist and the foodie in us!

Sitting between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Danang is Vietnam’s third largest city. It’s also gradually gaining travelers’ attention with its rapid development in recent years as new and swanky hotels are popping up one after another, while retaining its ancient charm.

Just south of Danang is where the beautiful old town of Hoi An is situated. It has more than 2,000 years of history and is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. While you’re on a cultural immersion, don’t forget to check out the Pha Lap Pagoda where it houses a 1.1-meter tall Buddha statue. And why not end the trip with a meal of vegetarian cuisine?

To wrap up the list of our top 5, we suggest a more straight-forward destination, Jakarta. With just a couple of days to spare, we understand that one would just want to get to the place, and immediately be soaking up the local sight, sound, and smells, and Jakarta offers just that.

The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, is also the largest city and most populous in the country. Heavy traffic aside, Jakarta has everything a bustling city has to offer – trendy or traditional street food – your pick, shopping malls of all forms and sizes, sensory-overload streets and night markets, and a never-ending nightlife. Start the holiday with a trip to the hip Pasar Santa, where you will be greeted with over 300 little shops and kiosks parading all kinds of wares and crafts – from kitschy to vintage, also not forgetting the amazing offerings of eateries here!

Known as the “city that never sleeps”, party people will be pleased with the clubbing scene and nightlife in Jakarta; be it just wanting to chill with some friends over a drink or two, or dancing the night away, there is no short of options to pick! Alternatively, take a walk around Jalan Surabaya to satiate the antique-loving soul in you. Beware though, as not all items for sale here are actually real antiques! So do your homework before deciding on buying anything. Be sure to also check out Pasar Baru, the oldest market in Jakarta. Home to a diverse mix of Javanese, Indian, and Chinese, it is the place to be for an incredible array of street food! Just a word of advice – tread with an empty stomach!
