Vibrant and full of life, Kuala Lumpur is one of the best cities to celebrate the end of the year and the start of a new one.
But with so many cool events and party hotspots to choose from, it can be tough to pick just one. We’ve narrowed down the best spots that are perfect for fireworks-gazing or dancing the night away – or both!

The award-winning SkyBar is one of Kuala Lumpur’s most popular rooftop bars. Located on the 33rd floor, it offers an amazing view of Petronas Twin Towers, which means you’ll get enviable views of the KLCC New Year’s fireworks as well. Choose a few creative cocktails to sip on while you await the New Year’s countdown and groove to the DJ’s slick selection.

Set right across from the Petronas Twin Towers is Impiana KLCC Hotel, where you can watch the fireworks next to the infinity swimming pool. And you know what’s even better? If you book a stay there, you won’t get stuck in the post-New Year’s traffic jam. So while everyone else is trying to head home, you can continue partying or head back to your room for a well-deserved rest.
GTower Hotel’s View Rooftop Bar has breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline, especially at night. The alfresco seating area is of course the way to go for the best view of the fireworks. You can expect the New Year’s party to be a rollicking one.

As Kuala Lumpur’s latest premier nightlife destination, TREC KL is filled with pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs, so if one party’s not to your liking, just walk over to another one! Le Noir is a favorite for many partygoers – the three-storey party central features different music genres on each floor and has a roof terrace for you to dance and watch the fireworks display from afar.

Indulge with a New Year’s feast fit for a king at Troika Sky Dining. You can pick from three of Troika Sky Dining's venues: Cantaloupe blends European cuisine with Asian flavours, Fuego specializes in meat-heavy South American dishes, and Strato offers an Italian-inspired menu. Afterwards, savor a craft cocktail at Coppersmith or a glass of wine at Claret and cheer to a new year.

Why watch the New Year’s celebrations from just one vantage point when you can get a magnificent 360-degree view? At KL Tower’s Atmosphere 360, it’s possible – the revolving restaurant is situated 282 meters above ground, giving diners an unforgettable view of KL. The restaurant stays open until late on New Year’s Eve so you can watch the fireworks at midnight from the comfort of your table.

Heli Lounge Bar is yet another rooftop bar that’s a hit for those who want a clear view of the fireworks on New Year’s. However, what sets it apart from the others is the fact that it functions as a helipad by day and transforms into a glamorous bar after sunset. There are no rails or walls surrounding the helipad, so you’d probably want to avoid going near the edge if you suffer from vertigo.

For a more chilled-out New Year’s, grab a trusty picnic blanket or tarp and set it down on the grass of Merdeka Square, where you can be entertained by cultural dances and live performances before the countdown. Next to Merdeka Square stands the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, which is often decked out in cheery light decorations.

Publika’s outdoor square is a well-loved hub for local, hip events. The shopping mall usually organizes a New Year’s celebration with musical performances, food trucks and games. As the clock strikes midnight, you can enjoy the fireworks display and join in the crowd’s rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Usher in the new year with a dazzling fireworks display over the lake at Desa Park City’s Central Park. Before the countdown, you can hang out at the nearby Plaza Arkadia for the music and dance performances, take a stroll around the park, or savor a meal at The Waterfront shopping mall.

Taking place in Malaysia’s administrative hub, Festival Light and Motion Putrajaya is an annual feast for the eyes, featuring cutting-edge light and motion effects. It’s the largest festival of its kind in the country, and if you’re looking for something other than the usual fireworks for New Year’s, then this is where you should go!

Located in Petaling Jaya, The Curve shopping mall hosts a huge street party that’s open to everyone at The Street, its open-air shopping boulevard. Its eye-catching fireworks display could also rival those in Kuala Lumpur.
