COVID-19 General Information

  • 3 Accredited COVID-19 Tests

    Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test

    • Test profile: The PCR test are considered to be the most sensitive to detect the presence of COVID-19 infection. The method of nasal and throat swab is able to detect genetic material from a specific organism (i.e the COVID-19 virus) at the time of the test. Patients usually opt for this test when they develop COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with a positive COVID-19 patient. Most travel requirements acquire travelers to undergo the PCR test to be allowed entry to a certain country.
    • Accuracy rate: High
    • Sample methods: Nasal and/throat swab
    • Results availability: 24 - 36 hours

    Serology Test

    • Test profile: Also referred to as an Antibody test, this test detects if patients have an antibody response to the virus. This means that the test will detect if patients have been exposed to the virus for the past several days via antibody particles in the blood. Due to its limit to record only the level of infected antibodies after the fact, it does not provide an active infection detection.
    • Accuracy rate: Moderate
    • Sample methods: Blood sample
    • Results availability: 24 - 36 hours

    Antigen Rapid Test (ART)

    • Test profile: This test in nature complements the PCR test whereby it detects the bits of proteins on the surface of the virus that is called antigens to be able to determine the results. Due to the nature of this test to detect only certain parts of the virus, the accuracy level is quite low. It is only able to give a high-efficiency result given the body has presented several symptoms where a large amount of the virus is presented in the system. The best practice recommended is to still undergo a PCR test after obtaining a negative result to get a solid confirmation.
    • Accuracy rate: Low
    • Results availability: Within half an hour
  • COVID-19 Test Eligibility

    • Those who experience or show symptoms of Covid-19.
    • Those who have had close contact within six (6) feet for a total of 15 minutes or more with a confirmed Covid-19 individual.
    • Those who have taken part in high-risk Covid-19 infection activities because they cannot socially distance themselves as needed, such as travel, partake in large social or mass gatherings or being in a crowded indoor environment.
    • Those who have been asked or referred to get testing by their healthcare provider, either from the local, external icon, or state health department.
    • Those who have plans to travel to certain countries that require them to undergo Covid-19 testing as part of their permit-to-entry requirements.
  • COVID-19 Test Procedure

    • Depending on the choice of test travelers opt with, the general process will be similar to an extend. Travelers will be required to make an appointment prior to the date of travel, especially for those traveling under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) regulations or during the Travel Bubble activation period.
    • The clinics are tied to the specific period from which the test will be administered, thus, it is best for travelers to be aware of the clinic's cut-off time slots for any COVID-19 testing.
    • Travelers are advised two (2) hours earlier to ensure the necessary verification process can be completed in due time.
    • The results will typically be issued to travelers with a bare minimum of three (3) hours and/or 24 hours depending on the time and the type of tests travelers opt for.
