Alice Springs is the third biggest town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Well-known as Stuart until 31 August 1933, assessor William Whitfield Mills gave the name Alice Springs after Alice, Lady Todd (née Alice Gillam Bell), partner of the telegraph pioneer Sir Charles Todd. Currently colloquially identified as The Alice or simply Alice, the town is located roughly in Australia's geographic centre. It is nearly halfway from Darwin and Adelaide. The area is known as Mparntwe to its previous inhabitants, the Arrernte, who have stayed in the Central Australian desert in and around what is now called as Alice Springs for tens of thousands of years.

The only scheduled flights using the airport are domestic flights, although international charters do use the airport on events.
