Curlew Retreat was lovely and secluded and exactly what we needed. Loved that we could take our dog too. Walks around the property were great with lots of wildflowers still on display. A couple of small things needed attention at the cabin but nothing to detract from the overall experience. Definitely recommend for a couple to get away for a while.

Remote and peaceful .. just the sound of birds. Lovely to walk around the property and down to the gorge. Well located for day trip to Stanthorpe and home via Tenterfield. Met the horses (the youngster Tahoe was a little frisky so you’d need to be careful if you are not comfortable around horses or have children with you). The accommodation is great .. I’d recommend the walls and skirting boards be freshen up with paint and bathroom could be given a facelift. The kitchen has everything you could want (perhaps only placemats missing or not found). BBQ was good. The extras such as butter, bread and jams was a lovely touch. Lounge and TV perfect and although not super cold we did use the wood fire and wood provisions so a tick there too. A very enjoyable break.

It's private and the view is beautiful. Happy with the amenities, except for the blankets and cushion covers which need to be washed. I would recommend to confirm prior to checking in, eventhough Wotif says otherwise. It wasn't a good feeling after a long drive and we didn't have the access code with limited phone reception.

Such a wonderful place, exceptionally remote and away from humans, though the horses seem to think they're human sometimes. Everything you need to be fully self-contained is provided, just do your grocery shopping at Stanthorpe and you can pretty much stay there your whole stay unless you want to go out and explore. We visited Tenterfield and had a great morning tea at "The Potting Shed" - highly recommended. Just before you get to the dirt road to the place you can stop at the Lavender farm. On the property, there is a gorge which is a short hike down the hill, it's such a fantastic place to take the kids down to, and you'll definitely spot a skeleton or two - great way to freak them out!

Fantastic location and very nice accommodation styled home. Awesome gorge to meander around and discover. Bathroom and bedrooms well appointed with nice quality items. Cleanliness in kitchen/dining areas were subpar, BBQ had not been cleaned after last use. Was very disappointed that there wasn't any dry firewood or provisions to make a fire (no newspaper, firelighters or kindling) and the breakfast goodies promised weren't all there (par-baked Vienna loaf or local jams were missing). Owner comment when I rang to find out where these items were was disappointing, came across as we were an inconvenience, no apologies made. Could be a fantastic retreat if more care taken in setting up the experience as promised to guests on website and for the price of $385 per night I did expect better.

WOW, this place really ticked the boxes. Quiet remote location with plenty of room to explore. Beautiful horses greeted us on arrival. Well laid out cabin with everything you need. Well stocked kitchen with every utensil you could need. Fire place was stocked and ready to go. The linen cupboard had double of everything including some gorgeous throw blankets. Corner spa big enough for 2 adults. selection of books, movies and games to keep us busy. Everything we could have needed and more. Very little to no phone reception but free wifi. Make sure you receive details of how to enter before getting there. We didnt get an email and had a panic moment trying to call someone with little reception to get the code

Curlew Retreat is a beautiful 2 bedroom villa located on a beautiful large private property. The sound of the river flowing only 100 metres from the retreat was captivating and relaxing. It is a very comfortable villa and very well equipped for you to whip up a beautiful meal in the kitchen, or make use of the BBQ on the deck. If you're staying in the cooler months, like me, you may just find yourself drawn to baking an apple pie with the local produce, and every conceivable utensil is at your fingertips. If you are only planning a short stay and want to relax, make sure you plan ahead and get your supplies first to save having to drive into Stanthorpe. There is an espresso machine in the villa, ice maker and cocktail shaker, so if you plan in advance you can do as I did and knock up some Espresso Martinis to enjoy by the fire! You will also find a telescope on hand to explore the night sky from the deck. After settling in we took the opportunity to walk down to the river, it's a beautiful location to explore, and should you be visiting in during the summer you will not be able to stay out of the water, it's icy cold and refreshing! All in all, Curlew Retreat is a beautiful little slice of heaven, if heaven is being away from people and noise! Sadly we could only escape for two nights, and while two nights there was pure bliss, I wish we had booked longer. As we drove out the driveway on our departure we were already throwing around possible dates to return! Love it.
