What Guests Say About Their Stay

Palms City Resort is a beautiful place to stay. We stayed in March 2024. The staff are extremely courteous and most helpful. The room we stayed in was on the 2nd floor and was spacious and serviced all our needs. It only has two floors and stairs up to it, but they are not arduous. It has a pool which is big enough to do laps in. The grounds are its best asset. Surrounded by lush palms, native trees, and shrubs, it looks like a hotel you would expect to see in tropical Qld. It is a very quiet and peaceful hotel, despite its central location. The location is excellent. It is only a 10 min walk to the main centre of town and right next door to a pub we really enjoyed: The Hotel Darwin. It is right opposite the memorial gardens that lead onto the harbour and at night the sunsets are worthy of photos and meditative relaxation. One of the highlights for us was Pickles, a gorgeous green-cheeked Conure who regularly sits at reception and greets the guests. If we have to be picky, our only complaint is the design of the bathroom vanity, which due to its design becomes flooded with water when you wash your hands or face. We had to continuously wipe it dry with a towel. But that is a mere detail. Otherwise, we would highly recommend this hotel.

Great gardens. My door key would not open the Herbert St pedestrian gate, which meant I had to walk around the corner and come in the front. And there was no attempt by staff to rectify the situation. Very disappointing for a resort hotel of this quality.

We loved the tropical greenery and the staff were always helpful. We would have liked more tropical fruit varieties for breakfast and better pastries. Also we weren’t aware when our plane arrived at almost midnight that we needed to pre-book the breakfast to get the special discount. Apart from that, the location was amazingly convenient to get to the bus stops and shops.

We had a villa with a private pool and the garden area and sun loungers etc were lovely. A negative is that it is on the road side of the complex with a paling fence to the footpath. Not quite as private as I’d expected. Bed comfort was great, staff lovely. Breakfast was just OK. We ate at 8.30am and the hot food hadn’t been topped up, so was not hot and not a lot to choose from. Would’ve preferred breakfast in a cafe in hindsight.

Reception, pool and general service were all OK. Room was tired but functional. Biggest issue by far was the noise. Street noise, cars coming and going at all ours, people yelling just outside our villa. Also hotel and event music until early hours of the morning. To top it off the watering system came on each night for approx 30 minutes which had a water hammer issue, so very noisy in the villa while it was on.

Small but nice and comfortable room and very comfortable bed. Friendly staff, lovely grounds. If booking again would try and request a room that didn’t back on to the hotel/pub behind with live music.
