Royal Exeter Hotel

Location was fantastic, right opposite the BIC as we had booked a show. We were able to park before check-in so it was very convenient. Checked-in on time, Receptionist was friendly. Found our room at the very back of the hotel, i havevto say it was clean but dated. It was cold on arrival but we thought it would improve. We went to watch the show at the BIC and returned quite late to a hotel room that was freezing. We did think about ringing Reception but it was late and couldn't be bothered to go to the desk as we were far away through numerous fire doors and staircases. The radiators in our room were nearly always cold. We slept in our clothes as we were so cold and the hot water wasn't that hot. The tv in the room wouldn't work either and as the people in the room above moved around it sounded like the ceiling was going to cave in. Im not sure if the rest of the hotel rooms were anymore modernised but it felt like we were out in the overflow building which certainly wasn't a comfortable experience. Sorry for the poor review but was not enjoyable.

Really good value for the price. Really clean too. Just a little bit tired and could do with an update in some areas. Staff were excellent!

Good size room, staff excellent and attentive. Great location very close to the beach and gardens.

I’ve stayed at the hotel many times over the year. It’s in need of a massive refurb. Weather was cold but old sash windows let too much cold in, shower was horrendous. It’s a great location but sadly needs a makeover, with that said, you get what you pay for.

The reason I revisit the royal Exeter again and again is eveything from the friendly staff, the entertainment; the cleanliness and the breakfast, it’s a wonderful stay

Lovely hotel in a period building, friendly staff, spacious room and comfortable bed. My only criticism is the shower. The head was fixed so could not rinse out the bath and also whenever we took a shower the shower curtain wrapped round you as it was flimsy material, seemed unhygienic as it would have done it to everyone who stayed there and doubt it is cleaned/disinfected as the shower head is not removable to wash it down.

I didn't like the fact that I asked for a disabled room and I didn't get one and had to have help to get my scooter over a step to get down the corridor that my room was on. I even called the hotel before I stayed to request a disabled room which made it worse. Also they don't have a restaurant like the say on their website, it has closed down so you can't even get a hot meal. I certainly will not be staying at this hotel again

Decent

Upon arrival staff were smartly dressed and very polite. I arrived 15 min early whi h did not seem to be a problem. Room was spacious and very clean. Warm could have been a little warmer but thats my only complaint. 30 mins from train station ( walking) couple of mins walk to beach and shops. Will book again .

Stay the room on 1st Floor at the front . The night club 1812 on the ground floor . Heard the music and people chatting through the window under 3am Saturday. Ready prepared the Earplugs.

Room was freezing and had no hot water. Took 2 hours to get a heater and still no hot water until the morning. Loud music vibrating through the room until 4am. Finally managed to get hot water at 7am and only got offered a complimentary breakfast
