Smack bang in Colchester town centre, which makes it ideal for shopping, eating out, and nightlife. That said, if you’re like me and need a window cracked open at night, be warned: the noise and music from the surrounding pubs is VERY loud. Bring noise-cancelling headphones if you value sleep. The room was generally clean, although the photos speak for themselves. A quick go with some limescale remover would sort it recognising it’s not a big job. Possibly the bathroom door isn’t being shut during cleaning. Lighting throughout is quite dim, so if you need to do your makeup, bring a magnifying mirror and a small LED light. There’s an express self-checkout at the entrance, which is handy, and parking is available for £12 per 24 hours at the rear of The George Hotel opposite. Check-in and breakfast are also at The George, which is a lovely hotel with a much nicer atmosphere. This hotel itself feels a bit soulless, but it is undeniably convenient. I’m giving it 4 stars as I booked early and it was reasonably priced. It’s fine for what it is.

Unfortunately the noise from the high street was heard all night and kept us awake but the room was nice. Better directions for satnav as couldn’t reach the high street as each road a dead end

Flooring in lift was danaged and I tripped over it. Room was tatty, curtain hanging of the curtain pole. Divan was damaged excrement stains on towels. Was also really hot, thermostat was not working, thankfully patio doors worked, however the moise from Colchester City Centre is more like Colchester Zoo. Horrendous experience, worst hotel ever.

The hotel itself (hallways) is a bit like a travelodge but the room we stayed in, 911, was really clean and the bed was really comfy. It was quite warm though so not sure what it would be like in summer.

The room was very warm even though not a hot day outside. There was air conditioning in the corridors but not the room. I received an email during the day saying that I would receive an upgrade to a suite due to the lift being out of action however when I checked in I was told that I couldn't have an upgrade even when I complained about the room being too hot. Apparently my suite had been given to somebody else. Also when we went for dinner at 8.15 we were told that the kitchen had closed early so that the grilles/canopies could be cleaned. We were not told that we needed to eat earlier due to this when we checked in. We were offered a dessert only! I work in the restaurant business and all maintenance of this kind is planned out of hours so as to not disrupt the customer experience. This should have been the case here. There were still people in the restaurant eating. They should have at least waited to do the work until the service had finished. Apart from that poor experience the rooms were nice,
