Our room was above the bar area and although not rowdy could hear the people in there. When the people in the room next door came in it felt like they were coming into our room. The service was excellent, the bed very comfy, had a great night's sleep ready for a charity hike and the Kendal mint cake bar came in very handy

A great stop over in the Lakes. We used this lovely pub on our way back from Scotland but would definitely stay again when visiting the lakes. Easy to get to, friendly staff and good food.

Clean, spacious and comfortable room with lots of amenities in the room eg cafetière coffee, hairdryer, tv, good wifi and more. Lovely breakfast in the morning too. Centrally located in Alston with convenience stores and other facilities nearby. Only negative was the evening meals we had in the restaurant. Both undercooked in different ways unfortunately.

Lovely staff, great location and really good food. But unfortunately there were some resident woodworm that dropped out of the timber beam in the room and join me in bed for the night, making for a terrible nights sleep! Hope they manage to deal with this problem, because it spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Herdwick inn, we stayed here to break up a long journey. The breakfast was great, considering the price of the room the quality of the breakfast was fab, a great full english. The service was also very good, friendly and welcoming. As a pub there is no formal reception here, but we were not given any information, a bit of a run down about breakfast times, how to get out the property overnight etc would have been appreciated! The bed was really comfy and we slept really well. The room was let down by the poor shower though. There didn't seem to be any heating on, or the radiator wasn't working so it was fairly cold. We didn't mind this but others might. Overall for the price we were happy with our stay.

We were looking for an overnight stop travelling south from Aberdeen to Bristol and thought this would be a good half way. We weren't disappointed. It is a small Inn only 5 or 6 bedrooms but was ideal. In a quiet setting and lovely bar of the old fashioned era. Great character. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It may be a bit on the small side for some but suited our needs. A little window looked on to the countryside. Very comfortable bed and we both slept well. We had dinner and it was excellent. Chris being a top chef, thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thoroughly recommend eating here. Good food, good beer, what's not to like. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. We had no complaints, so much so we booked in for another night on our trip homewards and were welcomed back on our arrival. Chris and his partner have only been running the Herdwick for a year and we wish them both continued success. We would definitely stay here again if we needed to be in the area. Diane & Graeme Will
