I enjoyed my overnight visit at Scandic. The staff was helpful and friendly the rooms were clean good size. The restaurant had excellent food and the breakfast was so good... I plan return visit next year.

This is a well-run hotel in downtown Kouvola, quite near the important railroad station {Kouvola is a major junction in Finland's efficient rail system). It's also close to a pedestrian mall, shopping (a large Sokos department store is across the street), restaurants, and bars. Our hotel room was spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very well lit and usable, with an excellent shower with sliding doors that prevented any water from spilling on the floor (a problem at many Finnish hotels). The staff members we met were uniformly friendly and helpful. Our room included breakfast in the hotel's large dining room, and the food was excellent, with a nice selection of standard and Finnish items. We would definitely stay at this hotel again when we visit Kouvola.

The hotel is ideally situated for anyone travelling by bus or train as it is only about 100 metres from the bus/train station. Or if you arrive by car the hotel car park (on the roof) is free. The staff are friendly, the rooms were clean and the complimentary breakfast was very good. Our only negative comment is the air conditioning - or lack of it. It's centrally controlled and was set at a constant 24°C, which made the room far too warm to be comfortable, especially at night. Consequently, the room was stuffy and airless, most of the time. We mentioned it to the reception staff but were told that people complain if it's cooler 24°C. But, we couldn't understand why, when there is a temperature control in the room, they can't leave it to the individual to set the temperature to their needs. We would recommend this hotel to other people as long as they don't mind very warm rooms. It's just such a shame about the air con.
