KEX Hostel and Hotel Reykjavik

My stay at Kex Hostel was great! The staff were friendly and really helpful, which made the experience even better. The location is perfect — close to everything you need in Reykjavík. One of the best parts was the social atmosphere; it’s a fantastic place to meet new people from all over the world. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and welcoming place to stay.

Everything is very good 👍, clean n quiet. 👍👍👍 Is the guests who stay, no consideration.They stole my eggs on my 2nd night when I wanted to cook. Then the next morning, I hang my towel to dry, it disappeared .

Really enjoyed our stay at Kex Hostel! Great location in downtown Reykjavík. Everything was very clean and comfortable!

Es un hotel muy bien ubicado, en el centro y con varias cosas que conocer y restaurantes. Lo que más me gustó, el señor que nos atendió a nuestra llegada (sé que era griego) súper profesional y nos ayudó en todo lo que necesitamos; también la limpieza, arreglaron la habitación. Elegimos una habitación y baño solo para nosotros y estuvo perfecto. Quizás lo único, y que realmente no nos afecta, es que no es moderno y que no hay ascensor.

Excellent location! Our private room was comfortable and stylish. There was some mildew in the shower, but the bathroom was clean overall.

It was quite dirty, ended up walking barefoot for less than 5 mins and my feet were black. The walls were also paper thin, we could hear people cooking down the hall. Staff was nice and the price point reflects the conditions I suppose, but I would stay elsewhere next time.

Interesting decor and bery unique atmosphere. Has a bar downstaira. Kitchen/fridges on top 2 floors. As you would expect, staying in a shared dorm can be quite loud. Id bring ear plugs and headphones if youre a light sleeper. We had one girl come in at 2am. There are lockers in the room, We brought a few different variations of locks but only 1 fit (longer cable style lock, and not dead bolt style lock). We had early tours anyways, so plan to sleep for 3-6 hours. One day my bed was cleaned and they thought i checked out and my items were put into lost and found. We told the desk and were able to recover most of them. Put stuff away that you care about. Washrooms were ok, some were private showers and some shared. Overall ok stay, interesting experience and we saved tons of money. Iceland is expensive so we spent our budget on tours and food instead of accomdations.

This is not a hotel. No soap, no bathroom, no toilet in the room.

This was my first ever hostel stay, and I fear that Kex set my expectations way too high. The place was beautifully decorated, and was very clean. The staff was super friendly and upgraded us to a nicer room for free! The place was also super close to a bunch of great restaurants, coffee shops, and is right next to the water.

It was a very clean place! Every day, the staff washed the floors and cleaned everywhere. Including Kitchen! Cleanliness was my top priority, and I really appreciated that. A couple of small things: I would have appreciated clearer labels indicating where the trash and recycling go—people were throwing everything together in the kitchen. Overall, I would totally recommend this hostel 🙏

Hospitable, friendly, despite some construction noise coming elsewhere

Note that this hostel is currently under construction, a fact that I found was grossly unadvertised. There is this no access to the hotel bar or many common areas for that matter. Kitchen available but in dirty condition, unappetizing both to cook and eat there. I mostly spent free time in the cafes as the few common areas were either dingy looking or full of men well over the age of 30 making you feel slightly uncomfortable. I realize this is not the hostel’s fault, but nonetheless still a feature of the place. The rooms have a funky smell to them, likely due to the sheer amount of people sleeping in them. If the snoring does not wake you up, which granted is common in larger sleeping rooms, the construction outside or the door to the dorms that won’t work until a fourth or fifth push surely will! Do not expect anything but the bed you will sleep in as you will need to pay for a lock, towel, etc. I’ve stayed in many hostels before, and found myself pretty disappointed by this one. This could be largely due to construction, but why not make that clear? I sure hope I did not pay the prices they normally charge considering that I had access to a fraction of the amenities.

The hostel is in a nice location with great view, fun decor, very walkable area despite the construction happening currently, and the facilities were kept clean and in good condition. Beyond the cleanliness and convenience, the staff were really kind and went out of their way to help out. Especially appreciated free luggage storage for a bit after check out while waiting for transport to airport, and the loan of a few travel essentials I'd forgotten.

My first stay was better but my second was really bad! $8 to rent a towel and got locked inside the bathroom on the 4th floor. Loud people by the dorms at 1:30am - I reported to the front desk and he did nothing. 4 am these people were still there. Found out that one is sleeping on the couch- oh well, we all want to sleep for free! Linen was dirty and im pretty sure it wasnt changed from previous guest. Had hair all over. Duvet covers are not changed on each guest FOR SURE. Disgusting parking is extremely difficult - dont ever park by dominos pizza across the street! we got fined ! Hostel staff said it was okay to park there on the weekends 🙄🙄🙄 Don’t give wrong information!!!!

Great location, construction nearby prevented on site parking but there was close by public parking.
