Gardiner House Hostel

The room I stayed in was nice and clean but the outside traffic noise kept me up most of the night so the rooms could be better insulated against traffic noise the price of the room was very expensive for a old hostel building! Otherwise not economically best valve if you are looking for a separate room!

Property was good and pretty clean, if you have any issues after 11pm don’t bother calling because the front desk will not pickup

I appreciated the security of the building, and I could tell parts had been recently renovated. It didn’t have as much community as I’m used to with hostels, but it was a fine place to crash after a long day out!

Perfect. Except they offered parking. Since I rented a car and when i got there. They told me the gate wasn't working. And i choose the place because of the parking

Great hostel, had everything you would need. Good WiFi and free breakfast in morning was really good!

Not a bad place to stay when you’re going for a quick trip. Sheets had some possible water stains on them- didn’t complain because they charge you for sheet changes. Biggest complaint about the whole stay was the bathrooms. Them being shared isn’t the issue, it’s the time other guest staying there take in them. On multiple occasions there has been someone in the bathroom for 1+ hours which i know because my sister and i noticed the bathroom was occupied from the time we woke up to the time we left that day which spanned an hour and 45 minutes, with that person only leaving the bathroom because cleaning came. Ontop of that someone who spent multiple time in the bathroom next to it the day before put the bathroom out of service. Granted there are multiple bathroom within the hostel but it’s unfair that with shared bathroom for multiple rooms. Cleanliness of the hotel isn’t bad but leaving guest to wash and share cups, plates, knives and forks is pretty unsanitary due to people’s standards of what being clean is. No food and drinking in rooms is also a small red flag because we’re paying for our onsite property for x amounts of nights, if the rooms were taken care of properly it shouldn’t be an issue eating or drinking in them.

Clean, quiet, and comfortable rooms, nice staff, only wish the laundry was available 24/7

I was placed in the Gallery Bed #3. It was directly beside the bathroom and the entrance. It was a "sleepless night" when I desperately needed some rest.

Noisy inside and out. Can hear everything in the halls and others rooms, including the people coming and going at all hours. Some renovations seem to be done at cheap levels. Some staff seemed to be annoyed to be doing their work.

I stayed in a bunk bed private room for 2 people. The room was small but clean. The bathroom is shared with other guests although I seldom saw anyone during my 2 night stay. It is close to city center. It also provides simple Continental breakfast. Storing luggage will charge you eight euros. It was an ok stay.

I only spent an evening here but it was great! Everything was clean and well organized and I enjoyed my stay! Shops and pubs within walking distance and easy to navigate. Would definitely stay here again!

This was an excellent property for anyone looking for a short stay on a budget All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I did have to rent a locker for luggage as I arrived well before check in time due to planned activities on the day but for €8 there are convenient and safe lockers available. And at this time I was allowed access to the property’s WiFi and common areas to prepare. All common areas were well maintained with a spacious self serve kitchen area, with an attached indoor dining area, plus outdoor seating and access to a small laundry. The room I had chosen was as described and clean and safe with plenty of power points and a lockable cupboard for each bed and although some of the shared bathroom facilities were showing their age you could see they were regularly checked and maintained. With an 11am checkout there was also ample time in the morning to refresh and grab a light continental breakfast before departure. I would recommend and wish to thank the staff for all their hospitality and diligent work

Very good accommodation I stayed in the room with a private bathroom which was very good. Nice free breakfast and easy walk to transport links.

Great cheap nights sleep. It was confusing to find my way around and find the chapel area. 10 minute walk to Oconnell st which was nice, lots of option for.food.

I hate leaving bad reviews, especially when I think the intentions are good, but .... it seems that they have upgraded the hostel without actually testing it out. And there is so much that doesn't work. There was one toilet on the 3rd floor for about 30 people. That is abysmal for a modern hostel. And the toilet wasn't even in good condition. The top bunks have no shelf, ledge, any sort of place to put things like phone, glasses, etc, during the night. So simple yet so stupid to leave out and makes it really inconvenient. What are you supposed to do with your phone, glasses, once you get into bed?? There is one central bright light in dorm rooms, no smaller lights for if someone comes in late or gets up early. Again, so simple to add. It's like they forgot to ask backpackers what is needed in a backpacking hostel. There is no elevator to the 3rd floor. It stops at the 2nd. And the elevator is tiny anyways so you probably will end up walking most of the time. They are high ceiling floors, so going up to 3rd floor from garden level is like walking up 8 flights of stairs. On plus side, lovely garden area. But overall, such a shame - some small changes would make such a big difference. But for now, you will be far more comfortable in other hostels.
