Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku

The exterior of the property was absolutely beautiful, with a sleek, minimalist Japanese design. It’s in one of the best locations in Shinjuku—right across the street from a 7-Eleven, which made grabbing snacks or using the ATM super convenient. This is a very busy ryokan, with a constant flow of guests coming and going. At times, the lobby felt a bit hectic, with piles of luggage from guests waiting to check in. They use self check-in kiosks, which are easy to navigate, and staff is available to assist if needed. However, the experience didn’t feel particularly personal, as the staff seemed a bit distant and detached. The common areas were clean and modern, and the elevators, though busy, were fast. Our room followed the same minimalist Japanese aesthetic—compact but well-designed. It was a bit tight, as was the bathroom, but both were functional. We appreciated the bidet toilet and the stunning city skyline views from the 17th floor. Unfortunately, the fridge in our room wasn’t working, so we couldn’t keep anything cold. The room had a few basic amenities. The hotel also has a restaurant offering traditional Japanese breakfast and kaiseki-style dinners, which must be booked in advance. We didn’t have a chance to try it, but it looked like a unique experience. There’s also a rooftop onsen, which we didn’t explore but heard good things about. Overall, it was a good stay—especially if you’re looking for a stylish and well-located spot in the heart of Shinjuku.

We loved our stay at Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku. The aesthetics were beautiful and the reception staff were so lovely. The hotel is located on a quiet street but a short walk away from all the action. 100% would stay here again.

Great place

Beautiful hotel, from reception to rooftop onsen. The location is perfect and the decor matches modern with traditional. The rooftop onsen is beautiful and they also offered a ‘sleep easer’ of free sale and treats from 22.00-22.45 Highly recommend and the perfect way to end our 2 week Japan adventure

Excellent stay couldn't recommend enough! This hotel has a lot of international tourists, which is no issue. The onsen is not bad but can get very busy. Highly recommend the Japanese breakfast even just for one of the nights to experience , it is very delicious! The room is a hybrid Ryokan, quite small for 2 people but beds are comfy, low cold water pressure which needs to get sorted and light does shine in easy through the blinds other than that an excellent stay. Would come back

Really clean

Very clean and modern boutique hotel. Rooms are small - which is to be expected. Onsen is really wonderful. The views from the onsen and top lounge are spectacular. Service is good. We walked from here to all over Shinjuku. Really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is clean and modern but also has traditional Japanese touches and therefore is a great place to try! It is a bit further up the street than other hotels but is still easily walkable to central Shinjuku or to public transport to explore further afield in Tokyo. It is also surrounded by lots of shops and amazing restaurants if you want to stay nearby. The rooms are comfy, clean and everything you need and ours had an amazing view of the city from the massive window. Great hotel and definitely would stay again!

This is a real gem and a great place to stay after long and hectic days in Tokyo. The Onsen helps relieve tired bodies. The rooms are hideously small if you get a standard small. Good for one person, frustrating to manage with two people. If you can, pay extra and get a larger room

The room was really really small. The hotel lobby was packed with luggages as mpst people left their luggages in the lobby due to space constraint in the rooms. The hotel is in a convenient area with 10-15 mins walk to shinjuku central. I wished it was cleaner and less busy for the price though.

Great little hotel, a little way outside the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. Check-in was easy, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless as is usually the case in Japan. Our stay in Tokyo was blighted by rain, but this made coming back to the hotel and relaxing in the very nice onsen all the better! Overall, couldn't have wished for a better place to rest the weary bones.

Very cozy room and decent sized. Loved the design of the hotel. Love the horizontal slim window in the room. Enjoyed the onsen and complimentary ice creams!
