The management at Hippocampus we’re excellent. We booked the room less than 24 hours before arriving but they responded to emails immediately and organised our transfer from Cebu airport. The rooms at Hippocampus are fairly basic but still some of nicest on the island from what I saw. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the ac works well. The balcony is also really nice especially if there is a rainy patch. WiFi didn’t work in our room but you can just walk down the stairs and it connects in the restaurant or on the beach although can be slow. The shower water is slightly salty however we extended our stay and moved hotel (Hippocampus was booked up) and their water was the same. This is just how it is on malapascua. The water was nice and warm though and the pressure was ok and you get used to the slight saltiness!

It’s on the beach, which is of course, great. Room is clean. Water is hot. Air is cold. Fan in room was broken. While the drinks are good there find another place to eat. Very disappointing. Dive resort personnel were rather rude and acted like you were bothering them when you asked a question. So needless to say I went somewhere else to dive. Overall the place isn’t bad, but next time I’ll definitely stay so where else. So many options.

Very nice hotel on the beach. Having salt water piped into my shower and sink was very strange and not enjoyable at all. Showering in salt water? No thanks. Next time I'll stay in a hotel that has Fresh Water.

I saw many reviews elsewhere and couldn't find any good hotel in the price range. So I went ahead and booked this hotel feeling that my stay would be average in my mind. But it turned out to be totally opposite of what was expected. Rooms were nice though you can say condition were not that good but not that bad too. Welcomes drinks were offered and hotels had a nice vibe as you can go directly to the beach plus they have a lovely restaurant too.

Awesome hotel with happy, friendly staff and efficient service. The beach location, sunset views, a/c clean and comfortable rooms, views, entertainment, fabulous food, drinks and dive shop are all a 10+. We have stayed here twice and have not been disappointed with anything. Very well priced for the luxury. Damz the dive master is very thorough with safety and knowledgeable of the creatures of the sea. Christy the owner is a beautiful person and takes pride in making sure the visitor enjoy their time at Hippocampus.

Room was clean but felt like it needed to be freshened up a bit - I can't quite work out if that's because it's starting to get a bit old, or just the way it was decorated and presented. In any case, the room was fine - no complaints. I think they charge a bit of a premium for their location - right in the middle of the main restaurants. You can find better rooms for the same price a few hundred metres either side.

Overall it was a good experience! I had a standard room which I believe is overpriced not having air conditioning, a refrigerator, hot water or wifi! The staff were amazing and the superior rooms looked good if you are willing to pay the price!

All hotels in Philippines are Aircon as it is a tropical country. If hotel is non aircon it clearly specify in its description. That is standard i all philippines. However, in this hotel they do not specify which rooms are aircon and which ones not. But once upon arrival they tell that the one booked was non aircon. Then they charge extra for turning on the aircon switch ( the rooms actally have aircon but is disconnected from main switch if not paid additional).

we had booked a beachfront room and beachfront it was. Unfortunately, it was very close to the bar (sometimes a bit noisy if you're looking for peace and quiet) and we were next door to a dive shop's store room. This meant that we were woken up by divers collecting their cylinders and equipment for early morning diving (4.30am! ) The manager was very understanding and moved us the following day and was very efficient in resolving the problem with our fridge. on the whole the staff are really lovely and friendly and we were welcomed on arrival. sadly, a couple of the staff were a little unfriendly/miserable. rooms are basic but kept very clean by the housekeeping ladies. food and drinks were of a good standard, great cocktails and a full breakfast was included in the price of our stay.
