What Guests Say About Their Stay

Simple check in process, in a lovely lobby with a great wee bar and breakfast area. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, well equipped, clean, and most importantly the shower was top notch. Honestly, difficult to fault especially given the location. We parked in the multi storey, which is about a 5 minute easy walk away. The dog charge, which was £20 per dog per stay stung a little for our one day stay, but the free dog treats and towels were a great touch. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Staff were kind and helpful. Location makes getting around very accessible, very close to the train and the bus station.

The bar and dining area was being renovated while staying 16 to 20 march so meant a bit of relocation for breakfast a couple of times. However that did not distract from the quality of the breakfast or the fine service provided by the staff on duty. The room was very clean and comfortable

Nice welcome, and ideally placed for being in the town. Room was good, clean and worked well for us. Breakfast was just okay, possibly would have been better but we followed a very large group. Would use it again without hesitation.

Hotel tired. Not good first impressions. Room ok for budget standard. Could have been serviced better. Carpet needed good cleaning. Stayed for 2 nights and hotel doesn't normally service room. Any additional items from reception/bar. Breakfast very poor selection. A couple of items of so called fresh fruit which needed to be thrown away. Wouldn't stay again

I have stayed many times at this hotel and this will probably be the last time. I paid good money for a totally sleepless night and a very basic breakfast. When booking, I specifically asked for a room at the front of the hotel. I do so regularly, as I know from past experience that rooms, particularly the low even numbers can be noisy, so I was disappointed when arrived and was told that I was allocated Room 102. I told reception that I had bad memories of room 102 as I had stayed there in the past and it is the noisiest room in the hotel; which was why I had requested a room at the front. Reception was very unhelpful, completely unsympathetic and simply said there was nothing they could do. Room 102 lived up to my expectations, with unbearable loud noises from extractor fans and other machinery operating not far from the room window. I couldn't do any work because concentrating was impossible. I am a light sleeper - hence my request which was made when booking - and I couldn't get any sleep because of the constant racket from outside, which went on throughout the entire night. Breakfast next morning was a lacklustre affair. No fruit salad, no fresh fruit, no fried eggs on offer and the other breakfast items were fewer than is usually available and they were very slow to be replenished when they ran down. Check in the night before had been painfully slow and staff on reception were not helpful. I wouldn't want to go through this again and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Pros: close to other places Cons: where do I start? 1)We picked this hotel because it said there was a gym. Guess what, no gym 2)another reason to pick it was it had a restaurant. Well, restaurant only opened for breakfast 3) let’s talk breakfast. The first day we went for breakfast, there was absolutely nothing available. No coffee, no juice, no bread, no thing they had the worst scrambled egg I have ever tasted with bacon that was done to a crisp. No knives either. From then on, we ended up going to Wetherspoons round the corner for breakfast, paying again for it 4) we were there Mon-Fri. We didn’t have housekeeping once! Even though we explicitly asked for it 5) The shower was a joke. It kept going really hot to really cold every few seconds We hated everything about this hotel. And would never recommend it or stay there ever. Just stay at the travel lodge or premier inn. Would have been better.

Centrally situated, what was the Penta Hotel, the B&B Hotel has been renovated and rooms are modern and spotless. You can find some really good deals at certain times, especially if looking to enjoy the music scene on your doorstep and dates don't matter. The £7 cooked breakfast looks really good but on the two mornings we were there THE FOOD WAS ONLY WARM/COOL. Even as sausages and bacon were being replenished as we waited, it was still only warm and not enjoyable. Five stars reduced to four is unfair on all the other staff who are doing excellent work. PLEASE SERVE HOT BREAKFAST.
