Horrible, horrible place. The room and hotel felt like we were in a haunted house. If you want to feel like a poor European renting an apartment in the 1970’s, this is your place! We were appalled at the room for the price. Seemed like a cruel joke. The maroon shag carpet seems original to the building. The shower is so small I could barely fit and the shower curtain was attached to my body the entire time. I wanted a romantic getaway with my wife, but she couldn’t even shower with me. Also, she didn’t even want to use the shower because there is only a rainfall shower. No handheld sprayer or anything so the only way to shower is to get your hair soaked every time. This doesn’t work for most women. The room was an adjoining room we could hear the people and their A/C running in the room next to us. Zero privacy. There was also ZERO service. They have this massive hotel with many rooms and… ONE person working there. He was a security guard and said there is no one else there and he can’t help with anything customer related. What?! I expect a hundred rooms run by one human at Motel 6. I expect a staff and at least one person to help guests at this price point. Bottom line is that this place is super dated to a disgusting degree. There are many hotels in the area that do much better for less or the same price. Try The Huntley. Ocean View Hotel or even the Comfort Inn is far nicer for half the price. Run from this place. My wife and I asked for a refund after an hour there.

I’ve never stayed in a more absurd hotel. The staff is excellent, but the place is falling apart. The toilet clogged twice, the A/C is useless, and they handed me a dusty fan as a solution. Meanwhile, they’re charging $13 for a bottle of water. Management seriously needs to rethink what they’re selling here—because it’s definitely not comfort.

Bathrooms with hair from previous guest. The staff decided not to serve breakfast on day of arrival. They said they would have rolls and coffee from 7:00 am to 10 am. The staff n charge showed up at 7:15 both days of my stay with no sense of urgency to get coffee and rolls out! Valet was also late…

I have stayed at several PALIHOTELS and have liked the uniqueness and location..This place is cool on the outside but has some issues.. The room has old carpeting, it smelled, I had to open windows, the no stall shower like other locations.. Got there at 1am one night and hotel was locked up with NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to get in… finally someone answered the call box and buzzed us in.. $52 overnight valet was excessive and SLOW!!! sat am, (9:30am) no valet around, luckily I kept keys to car .. Bon voyage…

Palihouse is a great way to experience Santa Monica. It’s just a couple blocks to Ocean Avenue and the Promenade and a doable walk to the Pier. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds exude 1920s charm. There is an elevator but if you are truly stair-challenged it may not be the best choice. For everyone else Palihouse Santa Monica offers an enjoyable and memorable experience.

The check-in experience was fine. The hotel was as expected for an older “boutique” hotel. The experience the morning of departure and for the following 72 hours (still ongoing) has been nothing short of horrible. I began itching while in bed at the Palihouse from 2 am until 6 am when I finally got up and showered - still no relief. The evening after my departure I was diagnosed with a chewing louse (lice) infestation. My doctor has been treating me with multiple insecticides but I’m still in significant discomfort and isolated to a room in my home to prevent spreading it to my family and contaminating my home. I called the Palihouse Hotel the day after my diagnosis on Saturday 09/07 and asked for a manager but was told “he is out but you can call back on Monday”. … this was after sharing the diagnosis. My response was, “How about I give you my number and the manager calls me? I was in room 112 and want to know what you can do to make this right?” - Still no call… I would think that a public health concern at the hotel you are managing would warrant a call, even on a weekend.

Lobby and grounds are beautiful but hotel is a little quirky. No liquor license if you want a drink at the hotel, and minimal staffing. Lots of character throughout - our room had a full kitchen, breakfast nook, walk-in closet and ante room for make-up/dressing.

It was a nice room. They need better service in regards to room service (1.5 hr wait for coffee) and coffee bar had very limited hours (need to leave to get water and food).

Property was beautiful, room was a good size and very clean. Decor and overall vibe was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great. Easy to walk to bars and restaurants or to the boardwalk/beach. It was a warm night without AC. The room had large windows to open to let in a breeze but this offered little to no privacy. Screens were in disrepair and the neighborhood was a bit noisy at night, but overall experience was good. Glad we tried it out but not sure it’s worth the price. We were charged for valet parking and the vehicle was too large for the garage so we ending up paying the parking fee for the valet to leave the vehicle parked on the street near the hotel. Had we known, we would have found a spot on our own and saved the $50.
