The Goodwin Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel, with very nicely decorated lobby and rooms. However, some updates are required: our mattress was not comfortable and seemed old with soft springs. Also, be aware there is a constant noise outside that was hard to block out with earplugs.

Excellent hotel, the historic charm is unique and full of character, the rooms were very clean and felt freshly refreshed, and staff and service were top notch. The hotel is centrally located to many points of interest.

Fantastic historic property, that is part of the fabric of downtown Hartford. The rooms are decorated with the right touch of modern and class, while respecting the historic character of the building, all while being juxtaposed next to a highrise. Max Downtown Nextdoor is spot on for dining and drinks!

It was great stay

There is nothing quaint or boutique about this hotel. We stayed on a cold February night. The room, especially the bathroom, was cold. The heater warmed the room—noisily—but not the changing and bathroom areas, making peeling off for a shower very unpleasant. Nothing in the mini fridge and no food to speak of at the hotel beyond what is sold near the check in table. In the rooms, there is a note on the water bottles that they are $3 each. Correct—you pay $580 for a hotel room and aren’t even comped a single bottle of water. The bed is really soft and uncomfortable. Everything is cheap all the way around—designed to photograph well but that’s it. I heard car sounds in the night— the windows don’t keep anything out. Recent snowstorm and they didn’t even bother to shovel the curb near the hotel, making navigating treacherous. It would be a nightmare for an older person. Just…no. Stay somewhere with better amenities. You’re paying for an exterior and it’s downhill from there.

The room is very clean

The hotel and room was beautiful! Great location, lots of restaurants to walk to. The only issue I had was when I arrived, the valet told me I could park on the street for free until Sunday instead of paying the 42.00 to park.( checked in on Saturday) He showed me where to park, and I asked if I was ok to park there because it was supposed to snow, he said “Yes, your good!!” Well, I realized when I looked out the window no cars were parked on the street. Went down to my truck and had a 100.00 ticket. Spoke to the front desk as I wasn’t happy and was told they couldn’t do anything and then Charged me 42.50 to valet park my truck as there is no parking in the street and the only way to use the parking garage was to valet park.. so parking cost me 142.50 plus 10 tip to the valet guy.

Great hotel, room was very updated. Perfect location walkable to all the great spots nearby.

Stay at the Goodwin every year and enjoy the downtown Hartford scene. Goodwin is right up there with any 4 Star hotel.
