The room was unbelievable out dated. The room smelled like a closet that hasn't been open in 10 years. The most disturbing part was the military presence treating the guess really bad. Not a pleasant experience at all. I will never stay at this hotel again.

The hotels has a great feeling as you walk in. This is an old 5 star hotel so the rooms are outdated. Front desk not the friendliest but I would give them 4 stars. I ordered room service (24 hrs) and I found out that since I didn't leave any card number when I checked in (I wasn't asked for one) I had to go to the lobby and pay there first. They are attached to a mall so location is very convenient.

There is clearly no investment going into this hotel so it is slowly deteriorating--spots on the carpets, broken handles, etc. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is bad so you can't walk around. The pool is very nice, though, so for a weekend it's a pleasant place to be. Hotel staff is well intentioned if not all that competent. Food at the hotel is pretty good though pricey.

Although I had not been to Venezuela over the last 7 years, I have traveled there dozens of times since the early ’80’s This hotel is located in the Sabana Grande sector of Caracas, which is reputed to be not one of the safest. However, the security detail at the hotel is visibly very good. I understand that some foreign dignitaries stay there for its reputed security. It is located adjacent to the El Recreo Shopping Center, which opens at 10:00 am and has a food court on the upper level with many fast food options. Upon arrival in my room, there were no towels in the bathroom. I had the impression that the room had not been completely made up before assigning it to me. This impression was further justified by the unclean state of the glass surface on the room’s desk. There is an older style, smallish security vault in the room, which had been left locked. After making two phone calls and waiting over 1.5 hours to have it opened, the new magnetic key provided to use for the safe did not work after the first use. Likewise, the magnetic entry key for the room door became demagnetized twice during my stay. The room has older, matted carpets, and its doors show evidence of multiple coats of varnish to what once were stylish, quality wood doors on its closets. The prices of food at the hotel are extremely high and its quality is OK at best. However, what was most surprising and unimpressive about this hotel to me, is that some of the staff have an “indifferent” attitude towards customer satisfaction that is reminiscent of old Soviet Era style of commitment to service. There seems to be a pervasive callousness that is uncharacteristic of the warm and friendly nature of the Venezuelan people that I know. In speaking with locals and in conversations with several taxi drivers over the course of my three-day stay at the Melia, the reasons for this general state of things became evident. The law now prohibits the firing of any employees, which virtually guarantees that there will be little incentive for employees to go out of their way to provide excellent service. People are struggling make ends meet, as inflation is sky high (one of the highest rates of any country in the world). It is clear that the environment will preclude foreign investment, which most probably explains the reason for the apparent state of dilapidation of this and perhaps many other hotels in the area.

Close to horrible. The hotel is old and seems to have very poor maintenance. Actually it looked like in some decades they did their last maintenance investment. Dirty carpets, room not clean at all, etc. On the other hand the service is very porr as well. Many employees at the front desk doing nothing. Approaching the front desk with a small inquiry could mean at least half an hour betwenn waiting time and talking to these people.... First evening when taking a shower I noted there were no towells available so I had to take the little ones (hand washer). I complained and it took almost a full day to receive 2 towells. The second day the towels at the hand washer were "gone".... Summarizing I will try to avoid this hotel in the future as it is not cheap at att and for me it's cost-benefit relation is extremely poor.

The hotel is luxurious and the facilities comfortable. It was also half a block from the new El Recreo shopping center (which has numerous, excellent, and inexpensive restaurants, multiple shops, several movie theaters, and a money exchange center) and two blocks away from the Sabana Grande metro station. The bathroom had a jacuzzi, which was a big plus. The only thing that would have made the room perfect would have been a coffeemaker, which is something other less luxurious hotels have. Also, the staff was overworked or limited. My room was consistently cleaned around 4:30 PM every day. I also waited a good hour before the bellboy brought my luggage. No bellboy was available when I left the hotel. All were friendly, though.

Loved the breakfast buffet. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The large swiming pool and fully equipped fitness center and sauna are nice also. It's not a safe area for walking at night however. If you need to get out of your room and walk around, go to the Centro Recreo Shopping Mall next door.
