My 9-year-old and I stayed at the Royal York for one night for a birthday trip. Our first impressions were good - the decor and ambience were lovely, and the service was attentive. The room was clean and spacious, though the bathroom was a bit cramped.
Our stay was ruined for us, however, during the middle of the night. We were woken up at 3:30 am by a group of people speaking very loudly in the hallway. The group then proceeded to go into the room next to us, and to have a loud gathering of people, with people going in and out of the room. There had to be 5 or 6 people in there at some points. I could hear everything they were saying through the walls. I called down to the front desk and they said they would send security up. Security arrived approximately 15-20 minutes later, and after they left things quieted down somewhat and it seemed as though some people left the room. However, there were still at least 3-4 people in the room, and over time they got louder and louder again, making it impossible to sleep. I was up from 3:30 am until 5:30 am, and my daughter was in and out of sleep. Needless to say, this really put a damper on our trip.
I understand that this wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but what was most disappointing to me was that no one from the hotel checked in with us the following day. Furthermore, I emailed the Front Desk and the General Manager to share our experience, and have not received a reply. I would have expected much better from from a Fairmont hotel.
