The receptionist during the day did not respond to a request I made and on checking out the receptionist just took the key and showed complete ignorance. I understand that the hotel is under renovations but the price l paid for a disgustingly dirty room is unacceptable. I was not offered any apology! Such a shame as the building is of historic importance and it’s in the center of Banbury, but the staff need professional training.

I have now stayed a few times and Moriano the manager has been exceptional. Very friendly and a complete gentleman. It is now my preferential stay location in this area.

Hotel was very clean. Some refurbishment going on but not invasive. Enjoyed the evening meal in the restaurant too.

This main hotel building is stunning, however the majority of the rooms are at the back in a more modern section. The room we had was great in that it was newly decorated and had a separate lounge space. The only downside is how hot it was, despite having a fan, as you couldn’t open the windows very wide due to being on the 4th floor. It’s a quirky place, but suited us perfectly for being in the centre of Banbury in walking distance of the centre. The staff were also friendly, and we were grateful they had night staff to let us in gone midnight!

Impressive facade. However when walking to the room the period character diminished due to stains in carpets and poor decorative order. The room itself was pleasant and clean. However the room could do with air conditioning as unpleasantly hot after a very warm period of weather. In terms of the breakfast the choice of food was limited. Would have expected to see scrambled egg and orange juice which were not available. The coffee pot was empty. However this was brought out straight away once we notified the server. Most traditional English breakfast items were available but continental breakfast items were limited. On check out no staff on reception but box was available to deposit key! Overall this is only just a 3 star based on appearances and our previous options of 4 and 5 star hotels. Parking was cramped at the rear with our suv! Access to car park was also tight. Overall not the best experience!!

Great staff and location. Nice overnight stay. Double bed was 2 singles joined and in need of replacing. My big gripe however isn't that though, its something that can be easily rectified. The coffee at breakfast was awful. Really bad. You remember things like that and it does make a difference.

Grubby carpet in the room. There was just one towel and not even a bath floormat. No shower mat for the bath. From 6am the corridor doors were continually slamming as guests were leaving. Building looks great from outside though.

Solo female traveller - first room I was given couldn’t be locked from the inside. Asked for the problem to be fixed or given another room. After some suggestion that it was too late for maintenance to help (9.30pm) and the hotel was fully booked so no alternative rooms, they found me another room. Apparently a “suite”. However, it was absolutely filthy, furniture literally falling apart and stank of smoke… oh and the heating was stuck on when it was 25°c outside. Would have got a shower to cool off but I feel I would have come out dirtier. Avoid avoid avoid!!!!

1 night stay as a family of 4. (2 adults, 3.5 year old and 15 month old) At first I was a little reluctant to book, after seeing some bad reviews, but I'm glad I looked past them. The room was lovely! The perfect set up for what we wanted. We came away for my husbands 30th birthday and the location was a good mid point stay between where we were going over 2 days. The hotel even set up a low camp bed for our youngest, which saved us lugging her travel cot into the room. It was quite warm in the room and only a small desk fan available. We were on the 2nd floor and had to sleep with the windows all fully open and even then the children were unsettled. Luckily there is a park just around the corner, so we went for an early norning walk there. Breakfast was lovely! Staff were all friendly and chatty. We also sat in the garden for a drink in the evening, it was really nice and cool down there. The room was clean and well presented. Tea coffee and biscuits in the room. There was even a little fridge, perfect to store our daughters milk! We will definitely return if we head that way again. Thank you for a lovely stay!!

Feel completely miss sold and ripped off, its my anniversary so I paid the extra for a superior suite. We went to our room and then back to reception to check I had the correct room. I was told I have a suite so I explained that it was advertised as Jnr or superior, I wanted to ensure I have a superior not jnr and was told there is just suite and I have a suite! Nothing at all like the pictures, dirty stained carpets throughout, the water pressure in the shower was non existent, the description suggests a bath, no bath. At least the room was in the main building and not the 60s office block at the back. It should be described as an old quirky building with the option of a double or suite, thats it, not a double, superior double and definetly not jnr or superior suite that you pay the most for. The bar staff and one man covering reception in the evening were all great, friendly and helpful.

Hotel is definitely in need of a refurb. Our room and the other common areas felt very run down, and I don’t think reflective of the price we paid for our stay. We had a dodgy shower that was very difficult to turn on/off. There was no air conditioning and it was a warm day so we had an uncomfortable nights sleep. We arrived early as we were off to a wedding and unfortunately there was no capacity for us to check in early (even though I called the night before to check if that was an option and was told to do it upon arrival). The receptionist did allow us to get ready in a meeting room which was helpful, but being able to check in early would’ve been better!
