Bad service, check in took way longer than it should. They will nickel and dime you...charge you a bunch of extra fees for silly things. I could have found a better hotel for less money, and in a better location.

Menzeh Zalagh had extremely comfortable rooms, OK (not great) Wifi connection, a beautiful garden and pool area, and various options for food and wine/beer. It is in the Ville Nouvelle, so definitely not a riad in the Medina if that is what you are looking for. Food, beer, and wine were available most of the time--to fit your schedule--and OK for a Western-oriented hotel. We ate a lot of pizza! There are beer specials every night. The pool is beautiful and refreshing, although the lack of rules could have teens cannonballing onto you while you are swimming laps. Our biggest negative involved breakfast. It was always the same (Berber cakes, hard-boiled eggs, roasted tomatoes and potates, olives, 6 kinds of puff pastry, and cucumbers and tomatoes. NO fresh fruit or even dates, ever. No yogurt. Nescafe coffee. I was so tired of this after a week and a half that I wanted to cry--or at least go somewhere else despite having paid for breakfast through my room rate. The next negative involved the tour guide who alway hung out by the front desk and pestered us about tours. He was always ready to jump on us when we were going in and out. So, two negatives among a host of good features. It is also only a couple of blocks from the huge Borj Fes mall if you want to get some fresh fruit and yogurt and the Carrefour supermarket (I did) or peruse the liquor store (did that, too).

Rudest staff around. Bellman cursed us out for not a large enough tip. Rest of the staff rude and unhelpful.

We chose this hotel because of its location in New Town. It has a great view overlooking Fez from the back where you can sit on the terraces and watch the world by go. The hotel decor could benefit from some 'TLC' but what we loved about it was the staff. They were welcoming, courteous and could not do enough for us. We booked 3 nights but returned for a 4th. I would definitely go back again. A few niggles with the bath etc. but that did not in any way detract from our enjoyment. Beautifully quiet and relaxing.

I stayed for one night and was very satisfied. Hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming, room was quiet, comfortable, and large. Air conditioning worked great. Breakfast included. Only downside was that you had to pay the hotel tax (20 dirhams - 2$) in cash upon leaving. I only had a 100 dirham bill and the girl at reception didn't have change, so she had to ask about 20 people for change before she could give me my change.

Where do I start.. This is probably the worst hotel I have booked. The staff are rude and horrible. The corridors are dark without light and full off mosquitos. Now to come to the main points.. The advertisement on your website says the rooms have full air conditioning.. It's far from air conditioning.. It doesn't work at all couldn't sleep the first night and after informing the hotel staff all I was told I'm sorry open your window or contact your booking provider and book another hotel.. The drains in the bathroom are blocked so it takes ages for the water to drain and I literally have to hold the toilet flush for Upto a minute for it to flush...I mean is this the kind of hotel these guys advertise on your website?! Four star?? To top it off the ear ache from the disco on the ground floor doesn't stop until early morning.. This hotel ruined my holiday! Not to mention the train line right behind the hotel.. Trains pass every 2-3 hours furing the night. Do yourself a favour and don't ruin your holiday

Nice hotel, a pleasant 15-minute walk from the medina, situated on a ridge with a beautiful view of the city. There were several busloads of European tourists staying there as well, and I sometimes felt that I was competing with them for the staff's attention. Otherwise very comfortable and a good value.

I loved the city but would go to a different hotel next time. There are 3 hotels with a similar name and the taxi drivers get it wrong! So I went initially to the Palace, 5 star hotel, then directed to the 3 star hotel and ended up with the correct 4 star hotel. The 4 star label only makes sense within the Moroccan context. The corridor carpet was ripped and the lights were off and it was very dark and I was afraid, although they assured me that I was safe.

The guest service rep greeted us by trying to tell us that we were at the wrong hotel. With insistence, he found our reservation. He refused to give my copy of the Expedia reservation back to me. We asked for them to arrange for a tour guide for the next day, which they said they would be glad to do. The next morning when we went to the desk at the appointed time, they told us that they could not get one. Really? No heads up or anything. Every encounter at the desk was smug. The staff in the restaurant at breakfast was awesome--attentive, friendly, remembering our name and room number. We also enjoyed a good dinner buffet with attentive service. While we enjoyed the fireplace in the lobby, the bar service was very slow. In fact, you had to ask for service every night. The room condition was very disappointing for $300 per night. Big cracks and patches on ceiling. Cracked lamp shades on wall sconces. No artwork in room at all. Very stark. Definitely in need of renovation.

This hotel might have been a 4 star hotel a long time ago but not up to today standards. The staff at the hotel is extremely serviceable, polite and helpful. The hotel was clean, however the AC didn't work in 2 of the rooms i was in. The first room flooded and had to be transferred to another one. At night i had to keep the window open to get fresh air (AC not working) but the creek nearby smelled like rotten eggs....

The hotel Menzeh Zalag is really a great, comfortable place to stay when visiting Fes. Nice staff, clean rooms, a pool (helps in heat!), and you can buy drinks. Pretty economical too. My only criticism is that they don't have a taxi service and apparently can't order one to help you get to the train station. They are located conveniently next to a major taxi thorough fare (about 3 blocks away), but it's not fun shlepping your luggage-or standing around at 6am looking for a taxi-on major travel days.

A beautiful clean hotel. We walked to the medina most days but our taxi was about 10-15 MAD. The pool was nice and refreshing, with towels and lounge chairs if you asked. The breakfast was good, one day there was a woman cooking fresh buttered flat bread and the soup was very good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Fez.

Room quality: Decent. But, I had problems with having a shower. In general the hotel is nice, but I had two gripes: firstly, the restaurants in the hotel are not great; the selection is very limited, the opening times were not ideal if you wanted an early dinner. The local area did not offer a great selection to venture out to. Secondly, I wanted to collect a local map from the concierge, who instead directed me to the hotel's tour guide that would take me around Fes. When you come to a place like this, keep in mind that money drives everything; the virtual refusal of giving me a map meant that I was dependent upon the tour guide and other hotel services. When talking to the tour guide, the guide's objective is simple: get you to spend money, and ideally through him. Anything I wanted to do - have a trip out of the city, visit other cities, visit other cities hundreds of km from Fes, walk around Fes,... - was available at a price. Some people would love that. Others might question the authenticity, and realise that their stay is completely dependent upon the concierge and the tour-guide.

There is no way that this hotel should be advertised as four star quality. My room was dirty, the air conditioning was broken, and I could hear everything going on around me (in other rooms and outside). Most of the outlets didn't work and two lightbulbs were burnt out. None of these things would have bothered me, if the hotel were less expensive and advertised itself more modestly. If you stay here, be sure to ask for a room far away from the nightclub. Even the pool was a little disappointing as the DJ has a penchant for loud, lewd rap music. Also, the breakfast was not very good. You'll get a better breakfast at almost any cafe or patisserie. There were a few advantages to staying at this hotel. The most obvious is that if you are a newly arrived student waiting to enroll at ALIF, this is a very convenient location. Also, there's a balcony with a very nice view of the city where you can sit and read without anyone bothering you. However, I still don't recommend staying here if you can avoid it. Your money is much better spent elsewhere. Fes is a wonderful city and I recommend finding a hotel or riad in the medina (old city), if you can.
