Quieter setting than being in Old Town, but a short walk from this charming buildings Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was good. Only negative was shower pressure/temperature adjustment, where the water stayed hotter than I would have liked.

The check-in employees were very rude. It took 5 days to get clean sheets on our bed. While inside the main hotel we felt like outcase.

It’s definitely dated but the location was perfect. Room was small. Towel warmer in bathroom didn’t work and coffee pot hadn’t been cleaned-nor the Nespresso dispenser. Breakfast was good. We would book again, but I would try for different area of club.

We booked 4 nights for our honeymoon. We expected an average stay at a reasonable price, with a historical/bed and breakfast vibe. The entrance & common areas reflected that expectation. As we made our way to our room, it changes. The walk to our room required multiple stairs, turns, and 4-5 doors. It was unbelievable, like we were inside a maze. The room was incredibly small. Terrible view, furnishings were old, musty, outdated. The worst part of our stay was our "bumpy lumpy" bed. Late in the evening of our 1st (and only) night, my husband went to the lobby and explained that it was our honeymoon. Obviously he asked if we could upgrade or if anything could be done for us. He was told they were "completely sold out". Then he was told that if we wanted to make any changes to our reservation, we needed to call Hotels.com because our booking was through them. That's fair, but I wish we had been treated a little better considering it was our honeymoon. Ultimately we just wanted to check-out early without getting penalized for the remainder of our stay. I mean, if they were "completely sold out" then they should be happy to have a free room back, right? When we finally checked out, the woman at the desk was strange, off-putting. We were very civil, never carried on or complained or yelled but finally we simply said, we just could not get any rest on that bed. She said nothing. We left for a Hilton and never got a follow-up from a manager.

Excellent location. Away from the noisy center, but close enough to walk there. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. Two things to be aware of. All the rooms are below street level, some two levels below. The other is the separate hot and cold faucets in the sink - a very archaic and inconvenient concept. There is a stopper, but the thought of washing one's face in a basin that you (and former guests) spit into wasn't appealing. Managed by filling my hand with cold, then hot water.

This property is unique and really a whole different experience than I’d find anywhere else. From the key entry to the furnishings to the decor, this place oozes history and a level of luxury which can’t be found in many other places. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and offer a level of personalized service… we felt that we mattered, we weren’t just the next client in the machine. We would absolutely come back. Thank you!

This was a very nice place to stay. Off the beaten path but in a very nice neighborhood. The club had a lot of history that was fun to investigate. Staff was super nice and helpful.

Booked as a Christmas gift for my parents - they haven’t stopped raving about it since. Have heard more about the hotel than their trip to Edinburgh! They loved the history and atmosphere and said the staff were delightful and it was well located for wandering around the city. Really surprised that somewhere I took a total chance on was such an unexpected holiday highlight for them!

The property has a lot of Scottish military history that you can peruse on the various levels of the establishment. The staff were amazingly helpful giving us directions to the various tours and attractions in and around Edinburgh. They had good maps of the area and arranged taxis for us when we needed them. All and all a wonderful place to stay.

A nice place to stay with a 24hr desk, elevator and friendly staff. The ‘only’ issue was an evening where the fire alarm went off a number of times and the staff assured patrons that it was a fault sensor - evidently, turned-off temporarily with manual walk around that evening? Some testing was done unannounced the next day (potentially serious but thank goodness no real-emergency). I’m sure the efficient & professional staff will work out the issue, sooner than later. Otherwise, a wonderful, interesting place to stay centrally located in a great walk-about neighborhood full of coffee shops, antique shops & nice dining!! Robert

Overall a really wonderful stay and a fantastic staff. Will never be a fan of having to leave a key at the front desk, and since I had a bad knee at the time, it could be quite a maze to get to our room from the lift-but at least they had a lift! The rooms did overheat a bit and the fan didn't do much to coutneract it, particularly with the bedding, but we slept well and it was decently close to everything we needed.
