This was a family run hotel and they made sure that their guests were happy and comfortable. At check in, the owner gave us a map of the area and pinpointed the main streets and attractions. It turned to be very helpful. The room turned to be a pleasant surprise. I booked a room with 3 beds, expecting a small room like anywhere in Europe, but we were given an appartment. Very happy with it. The room was quiet and the beds comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

We could only stay one night, but we enjoyed our stay. The staff was super friendly and helpful with recommending what to see on one afternoon, and with a restaurant for dinner. It's super convenient that it's only a few minutes from the train station.

Basic room, comfy bed, friendly staff, very close to main train station. Perfect for what I needed for a one night stay.

The hotel Clark was kind and directed me to the cosy restaurant nearby. The room has a bus tub. Great start of my long time journey.

Room clean with standard amenities located very close to the train station. Owners very friendly and helped put my passport my suitcase when I left it behind by accident!

Excellent location - not too far from the Pincipe station but not too close to the crowd. Room and bathroom simple and clean, very high ceiling makes it feel comfortable. Staff (may be owners) very friendly. Only downside - located 2 floors up the stairs (very long ones) with no elevator, not recommended for those with leg/knee problems with heavy luggage.

Nowhere did Expedia say that the Balbi Hotel is on the third floor of an old building without elevator. We had to climb 53 steps with our luggage. We were exhausted when we arrived at the desk.

Hotel was in an excellent location, very close to the train station and the historic area of Genoa. John was extremely friendly and helpful and gave us great recommendations for food in the area. The room was very bare bones, but clean.

Parking is an issue and many stairs to climb

Beds were not the most comfortable, but we were very close to the train station and the waterfront. Some restaurants nearby.

This hotel is conveniently located a 5 minute walk from the train station and across the street from the Royal Palace Museum (which is awesome). It's one of the few hotels where the reception desk was open after 7:00. Bathroom was small but room was spacious, with a window overlooking the street. Very friendly staff! They were quite helpful showing us around and watching our bags after checkout.

Staff/owners were incredibly helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

A group of friends (couples) stayed at the Balbi Hotel for one night after a week long cruise. We chose it because it was close to the train station, and 2 of our friends had to leave for Milan the next day. We really wanted a quaint place with character but also reasonable in price, and we found it all at the Balbi. We LOVED our rooms, the ceiling paintings are even more striking in person. Dario, who was at the desk when we arrived, was absolutely wonderful. He gave us great directions to drive down to Portofino and made us feel very welcome. It was also great to have wi fii and be able to skype my family at home in the USA. At night we walked around and stopped in a great local restaurant for some good pizza and red wine. There is a small charge for breakfast however there are also places very close to pop in for great coffee, pastry, etc. It was easy for our friends to walk down the street to the train station the next morning, even with luggage. The only drawback (if you have trouble with stairs) is that there are a few flights to go up before you can check into the hotel, but well worth the effort in our opinion. What a great find for us!! Especially if you have to catch a cruise or train, perfect location!
