A bit out of the way but very nice clean. Owner present and cheerful. Best spaghetti with 4 tomato sauce! Air conditioning and pillows could use upgrade. Charming walks to town and nature. Safe and pleasant. Quiet.

What a wonderful place!. Great location, great view of the castle and town. The room was excellent and the shower was the best we have had in two months of travel in Italy!

Owner was helpful and accommodating, and the property is clean, well-maintained and in good condition. There is also a small parking area at the back. The advert/hotel info on Hotels.com however was a bit misleading as we expected that there is a big, relaxing pool waiting for us at the property after a long drive from a different part of Italy. What we didn’t realise was that this “outdoor pool” is a public pool located about 10 minutes away by car from the property and that you have to pay 14 Euros per person to get in. The info sheet on Hotels.com lists that there is a “seasonal outdoor pool” in the property and the set of pictures even start with an inviting view of this massive pool to catch one’s attention. In reality, the pool is very busy and it may have seen better days. We went to this public pool anyway on our first day so as not to disappoint the kids but transferred to a much better one in Chianciano (about 9 kms away) the following day. It is heated, it is cleaner, it has fewer people, and it has more spacious parking. In future, it will be better and more honest if Hotels.com or La Gustea clearly indicate in the info that there is an “outdoor pool nearby (around 400 meters from the hotel)”. And please do not use the pool picture as Picture Number 1 - La Gustea is using another property’s amenities to hook you in.

Great stay at this family run hotel, the place is spotlessly clean! Great comfy king sized bed. Amazing food, we didn’t intend to stay for dinner however after the first taste of his menu we booked in for a further 2nights dinning. We would have stayed longer if we hadn’t booked our next location

The Roberta was set in a good location just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Sarteano. It was situated in a quiet residential street. We had a room on the second floor with wonderful views of the countryside. The room was clean and homely but it could have benefitted from a proper dressing table area. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke English. They ordered taxis for us on several occasions which was helpful. The breakfast was continental but adequate although geared to those with a sweet tooth (very common it seems in Italy). The Roberta also offered lunch and dinner which could be booked in advance. Sarteano is a pretty hillside town with a super public swimming pool attached to the campsite. There are local buses to the nearest train station, Chuisi, and Chianciano Terme and Montepulciano, which is picturesque. Unfortunately the buses seem to run very early in the morning or late evening so linking to train times is not always feasible! and the taxis are exorbitant. If you do manage to get to Chuisi station, there are good value trains to many of the popular towns and cities, including Siena, Florence, Arezzo and Rome. Sarteano has a good selection of cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. Try Tintoris, Merlinis or Carpe Diem for a good choice.
