Lovely, quiet, peaceful location. Lovely place to stop staff very friendly and helpful and food was fantastic. The room very clean and tidy had a great view of the countryside and the sheep and horses in the field next door.

The Hotel appears to hold events at weekends. Clearly it is advertising itself as wedding venue but also, while I was there, it held parties on the Friday and Saturday night - with consequent loud noise until well after midnight. The room I stayed in is in a new, small complex, separate from the main hotel. The main issue is the room temperature which, on arrival was at 25 C and still at 25 C at midnight, dispite the room's heating being set at 17C. My inquiries were not well received (I was blamed for 'fiddling witht the controls' which was not the case. Eventually it was admitted that they have a serious problem with the underfloor heating and that thermal control of the rooms was ineffective. On the second day we switch off the heating entirely yet, even with an outside temperature below zero, the room temperature reached 24C on the third night. I asked whether it might be possible to change rooms, since I argued that such a high room temperature was unacceptable and was told that 'this was a decision only the owner could make' and that they couldn't contact the owner (or perhaps wouldn't), and that they did not know when the ower would be visiting. ('they come and go). So no-one on site has the managerial responsibility to deal with issues of this kind. The food was very average as well

The location building and grounds were great. The servi e from staff was excellent. Warm and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. Cooked well. The room however was basic and dated. For the price was @ £195 per night, was expecting 5 star. Wouldnt give the room 1 star. Clean yes, functional yes, quality no.

Lovely place, good location and we felt very welcome. Unfortunately the TV wasn't working but they were waiting for an engineer to come out.

Lovely location staff are very friendly. Breakfast was superb. Our only small issue was the bed was a little hard for our liking.

Attractive hotel set in beautiful countryside on the edge of the Lake District. We ended up staying here because we couldn’t get anywhere else nearer the lakes, however this is a pretty good base for the northern lakes. Friendly and accommodating staff always happy to help. We stayed in a delux twin which did not have garden view, disappointing, but felt very new. It was spacious with a very nice bathroom. Beds a little hard but otherwise a comfortable room.

Only stayed the one night, but was impressed with what we experienced, which was mainly our room, evening meal and breakfast. All of which was top quality and not stupidly expensive. Hope to return soon.

Lovely quiet country setting, our room had a balcony looking out over open fields and the western edge of the Lake District fells. Immediately below the balcony, the field included sheep and 3 Clydesdale horses, including a foal. The location is easy for getting onto the main route through Cumbria and there are the interesting rural lanes. The local town, Cockermouth, is a charming and plenty of interest, be it shopping, cultural or places to eat. There are also plenty of pub restaurants in the general area that are well worth visiting. The hotel staff could not be more helpful or cheerful. A most enjoyable stay that I hope to repeat.

We arrived to a warm welcome however it was a bit too warm when we entered into our room. The radiators were on full and the Sun had been beaming into the room making it unbearably hot. Obviously we can’t control the positioning of the sun but to have all radiators on high, windows shut and no Air conditioning made for a very uncomfortable stay. We paid for a premium room overlooking the garden and did not feel it was worth it’s value at all. There was no water provided which really disappointed us as it was an especially hot room. The bathroom was far from clean and the Cold tap was very temperamental however the shower was great as were all the towels provided. The staff were all lovely however when waiting to be seated for breakfast we were left to our own devices and had to ask for directions or if we were in the right place at all. The breakfast took a little while to come but was lovely and hot when it did! The coffee was excellent and the food ok but the scrambled eggs need some revision! Sadly we won’t be returning which is a huge shame as the location was perfect especially with the beautiful gardens.
