Clean room ,great meal

I have stayed in hotels in many countries for over 30 years, but this was the first time I experienced a theft in hotels. There may be thieves anywhere, but having my phone stolen in Japan—especially in a tourist area—was truly shocking. I didn’t make a big deal out of it so my daughter and my elderly parents wouldn’t worry, but it is an experience I will never forget. Aside from this incident, the hotel’s facilities and food were good. It was disappointing, however, that many of the staff were not able to communicate in basic English.

We had a really great experience, Tana-yu and breakfast/dinner buffets are outstanding! Hoshi-kan room was super clean, spacious and enjoyed the purified water! Highly recommend!

Service staff was excellent. Had stayed in Nijikan and Hoshi Kan on separate nights. Staff had helped to transfer my bags and brought over my beverage that I had left in the fridge to the new room. Thoughtful gesture that had impressed me.

I booked the room HOSHI KAN Deluxe with Tatami Area Ocean View 58sqm sleep 6 people through Expedia. Clearly stated “ Children can stay for free if using existing beds when occupying the parent or guardian's room” while booking. The hotel insists to charge extra $300 upon check in for my 5 and 8 yrs old (kids don’t need buffet, they only eat burgers and fries). Super dissatisfied with the inconsistent information.

Everything was great! The only thing I’d say that could be better is their policy against tattoos. It’s understandable, but in 2024, they’re losing out on a ton of business, and more moving forward, as tattoos become even more common, even amongst Japanese folks. Not that it really matters much to them; they’re always full and are even expanding. Overall, though, a great (if not a bit spendy) place for a family vacation

Fantastic amenities and entertainment onsite. Close to the Beppu Ropeway. Awesome hot springs, food, and views.

The staff were all friendly and offer nice service but it was a little difficult to communicate with some staff. Only a few knew how to speak English

Good for relaxing

This is really something to be experienced. It is new (2023) and massive - hundreds and hundreds of guests. It is a spa, first and foremost. The rooms are huge, quiet, and elegant; the numerous staff are efficient and multi-lingual. Hot springs in the building, hundreds of guests strolling about in hotel yukata, views of the peaks and ocean. The optional meals are definitely recommended - the food is fantastic and also it is a long hike to get down the mountain. Partner likened it to a luxury cruise ship on land.
