Our room was not actually in the hotel we thought we'd booked but in another building down the road. It was not easy moving heavy bags and no lift to upper floors. The noise from a bar was ridiculously noisy untill 11pm. We would not have booked if we had known it was going to be so awful. There wasn't even anough coffee & tea for 2.

This is a difficult review. The hotel tries hard, I presume it's been recently refurbished in the Carlton annex. However, you need to keep on top of it and do the little bits like carpet fraying who decided on the edges? The water from the shower will go into the bar below. it's student world so take up the offer of ear plugs. The location was a Ideal quiet but lively. Great shopping and simple eating facilities. I would happily revisit

My parents stay 4 days in this hotel and they love their stay. They told me that the hotel was convenient, quiet and clean. They wanted to give their thanks to the personal who were really attentive and helpful with everything. Only complaint that they had was the fact that there is no lift on the property but Other than that everything was great

This is an honest opinion of my stay. Cairn Hotel in a very vibrant leafy suburb of Newcastle. Lots of bars, restaurants, cafes and independent shops in the area. Checking in was fine and a friendly welcome from reception. Hotel is spread across both sides of the road, I, unfortunately was in the other one, CARLTON hotel. So as I had luggage I had to move my car from one carpark to another. No problem, there was space in very small carpark in scruffy back lane behind hotel. I was on 3rd floor, NO Lift! My bag was heavy! Had to make 3trips up and down. My room was right at the end of 3rd floor. Very small double, would really have been a struggle for 2 guests. Not alot of hanging space! It was hot and only 1 small window. Luckily a fan is provided, there's also a small fridge in room which was good. One sidelight totally broken. Bathroom was good with shower over bath, but I couldn't use bath as plug didn't work. Bed very comfortable but walls very thin, could hear next door It was very noisy. Fire doors slamming and noise from street. Breakfast was across at Cairn(glad it wasn't raining!) Very enjoyable and tasty buffet style. And cafetiere of coffee which was very nice, not from a machine! Friendly staff. All in all a good hotel apart from all the stairs and having to cross the road. A bar and restaurant, plenty to do in area. Shops nearby. Rooms could do with an update but it served my purpose of visiting for a family wedding.

Good location. Nice breakfast. Free parking was full the first night. Convenient for West Jesmond Metro station. Some lovely local restaurants. Only downside for some is rooms are above a bar so you can hear music, however it stops promptly at 11pm. Over

Cosy little place. We stayed at their satellite location at the Carlton ,( 1 min walk away), and it served our purpose.

We were moved from our booked room claiming our new rooms were of equal value, noisy right above the bar tiny rooms.

The hotel is pleasant enough, but note that some rooms face the street, and it can be pretty loud with street noise and people drinking below.

The room needs updating but for the price it has been sufficient for my needs visiting a friend in hospital. The bathroom needs a refurb desperately. All linen and towels are clean and the bed is comfortable.

Great location and great price, staff were very helpful. There was a slight smell of smoke in my room - there was still a plastic bag taped around the fire alarm which I only spotted when I was checking out.

Brilliant place to stay, very spacious rooms. Clean and friendly. However if you go as a family you will be in their sister hotel The Carlton which has no lift access. The bar downstairs is open till 11pm and it is loud especially on the first floor. However they do provide earplugs if requested. Everything else was lovely - breakfast was lovely. Water pressure was good - which is unusual! And the shower was lovely and big. We would stay again but with earplugs. Tea & coffee making facilities and a mini fridge. Iron and ironing board provided.

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was large and comfortable with everything we needed for a good stay. Parking was convenient and transport into the city centre was straight forward with a bus stop just across the road. Returning, the bus stop is right outside the hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now & we have never really had any issues however this time we had a call from the guy on reception at 3.40 in the morning to ask us if we had the tv on in our room which we did not as you can imagine we were both fast asleep & got a bit of a fright thinking that it was the fire alarm going off cause the phone in the room was so loud, obviously after been disturbed it was hard to then get back to sleep. When brought up the next morning the girl on reception did say they were sorry about it but that was the end of that which we were a little annoyed about as it wasn’t a cheap hotel & all you want is a good nights sleep so we have decided to try somewhere else in the future.
