I contacted the hotel through email, but they didn’t reply. I wanted to reserve a private bath for us but Ofcourse no reply so it didn’t happen. I wanted to reach out through Expedia but that didn’t work either. On Expedia the room details were false. The photos did not match the room we got. We requested a non smoking room and ended up getting a smoking room. When we asked the staff they sprayed a air freshener in the room which didn’t do anything. I guess if you aren’t Japanese it’s just hard to communicate and they don’t try either. The property itself is nice. Just need more communication for foreigners or else don’t put thier listing up for them. There is also a fee for using the public bath.

Wanting to splurge, I found the Kinagawa Plaza Hotel. It seemed nice on the website and had most amenities, so we splurged. After arriving a bit early, the hotel was a ghost town and staff member at reception told us we had to wait til 3PM to check in, despite no one else being there. We lingered in the lobby long enough (5mins) to make them nervous and without us requesting it, checked us in, which was nice. Only to find out that the room we got was half the size of the one we reserved. It technically met the “suite” with outside bath requirement, but was half the size of the one we had thought we reserved and paid for. Staff at reception spoke almost no english so after some back and forth on Google translate, they agreed to exchange the room to the one pictured. Much more spacious than the first one, still pretty run down. Air conditioner was non-existent. It was only one night we stayed, which was tolerable, but not worth it. Disappointment was an understatement having stayed at the Conrad Tokyo the night before in an actual suite for about the same price I was charged at the Kinugawa Plaza. Just find a place to stay in actual Nikko, not 1 hour outside of it, with better reviews and bang for your buck.

Wanted to stay in a hotel near Nikko with a private outdoor bath. Kinugawa Plaza hotel fit the bill. We had a very large room with western style beds and a very nice outdoor bath. It also had a massage chair that had me sleeping in a few minutes. The hotel (and the area in general) is a bit older and very quiet at night but convenient enough to drive to Nikko for the day. We didn't get the full board so we had to look for a place to eat dinner (you can't eat at any of the restaurants in the hotel unless you opt for the full board rate). Luckily, there was a pretty good place across the street. No convenience stores nearby so buy anything you might want/need before heading into the Kinugawa area. The highlight of the stay was definitely the outdoor bath. My mother wanted to have the onsen experience but doesn't walk well and we didn't trust her going into the public bath by herself. Very relaxing and peaceful.

Wonderful stop for night. Location was easy to find, check in was fast and after full day on motorcycle and site seeing, we were ready for the onsen. Meals were fine, breakfast was excellent. Crossiants were the best. The hotel is right on the river, views are wonderful.

The area around Nikko is rich in culture, history and nature. This hotel proved to be a wonderful jumping-off spot for exploring the area. Note, however, that it is 10-15 km north of Nikko so you need wheels. It is a Japanese style hotel, new and well maintained with large rooms, many overlooking a scenic river. Highlights are the beautiful spa facility, and buffet breakfast and dinner with a wonderful selection of food, including some Western items. WiFi is fast, but available only in or near the lobby. wifi lobby

facility was clean but services promoted were not available. WIFI in room is a big sales point. No Bar or options available at this hotel. Area around the hotel looks to be in financial trouble as many hotels are closed. Although the stay was relaxing and general conditions clean, I would not recommend this facility to others.

We weren't prepared for how little English they had at this hotel, much less then we had found in other cities in Japan. And without wifi in our rooms it was hard to get prepared! Checking in, asking about buses, asking about food/ restaurants and understanding the facilities was all a difficult task. Our floor (10) had filthy carpet and lamps in the hallway and an overall dingy look. The beds were uncomfortable, flat futons. There was no shampoo, body wash or hairdryer in the rooms, only in the spa. Spa is great but a little uncomfortable as you have to be naked. It's not something I'm used to in Australia :) Make sure you pre book to get the dinner buffet as there is not much food around at all and they would not let us book it at dinner time as we didnt have a reservation. A little restaurant across the road was good when it was open. Breakfast was ok, there was lots to choose from but pretty low quality stuff.
