Super endroit mais difficile de trouver un stationnement. Il y a beaucoup de restaurants en bas donc c’est toujours un peu brouillant. Dans l’ensemble c’était parfait pour nos besoins.

Ideal location. Handy for airport and all public transport. In the heart of the old town. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Right by the cable car.

Central location in a major tourist centre with historical significance for the city, the hostel is close to most attractions. Rooms that face the street also hear the life of the city all night. My twin room was clean, spacious and light. The kitchen is a good social place though has inadequate facilities for the number of people who may actually want to cook/eat in - fridge space, cooking pans, etc. Showers are excellent. Wooden floors very creaky. Staff are warm, welcoming and helpful.

This is, by far, one of the best hostels that I’ve been. Everything is so pretty! The building is vintage (with an interesting background history), and the location is excellent (in the heart of the historic center). The hosts were super friendly and helpful, especially Cristina. The room was very spacious, tidy, and peaceful. The kitchen was great and fully operational. I only experienced a problem with the window (that wasn’t opening) but apart from that, everything was absolutely smooth. 10/10

Accueil impeccable, belle chambre , bien située . Vieille immeuble ; très typique . Insonorisation de l’immeuble diminuée mais l’endroit est recommandé. J’ai adoré mon séjour .

We really enjoyed our stay Santa Maria Hostel. The staff was very helpful and nice and our room was newly renovated and very clean. It's an easy walk to many things and we were able to find parking somewhat close for our rental car. The location can be quite noisy at night, but that didn't bother us.

Lovely looking hostel with super friendly and helpful staff. Very central and close to all amenities. Their restaurant also serves very tasty and lovely presented food. I am pleased we stayed there and would choose it for our stay again.

Over all good, apart from our beds made beds and floor boards made squeaky noises when moving around.

Immaculately clean! Our room was spotless with very comfy beds and soft linens We didnt use the kitchen but its a good size and looks like it has everything you need. There is laundry access and a little attic mezanine with sofas and a tv if you want somewhere to hang out. Excellent central location right in the center of the action with oodles of bars and restaurants on your doorstep - about 3 mins from the cable car and the main bus area as well and just minutes from the sea and waterfront The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful with lots of local knowledge. It is of course a hostel so theres a little noise from other guests but nothing to dwell on. (Worth noting theres stairs up to the reception and to the first floor so be mindful if you've got bad knees! 😂) We loved our stay here and I plan on booking here again for my mum when she comes to visit!

I had a really nice time in this hostel. The staff is super nice, it's very conveniently located and clean. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe in the city and at this hostel (in a mixed dorm).

As solo traveler I stayed in the “Blue dormitory” where the old wooden floor is very noisy and the beds are very weak - you can feel every single movement of the person above or beyond you. It’s a big old house in historic centre of the city.

Very good place to start exploring Funchal or to rest & relax after a busy day across the island.

Amazing hostel - exceeded my expectations with the nice building, friendly and helpful staff, fantastic breakfast and daily free cake!

It is a beautiful property and very well located in the old town. They also have a restaurant serving excelent food. They give a discount of 10% to guests of the hostel. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly.

Very unique historic old school building . Spacious ,very clean , outstanding service and extremely friendly staff great kitchen area You are right in the heart of the busy bar ,restaurant area . Great morning breakfast of all you can eat really beautiful garden

Location was great, however it was very difficult to sleep. The noise from the outside restaurant and bars kept us up all night. I did not get one good night sleep while staying here.

This was one of the most lovely places I have stayed. It is warm, friendly, in the the best part of town, close to the sea and beach front. The Rua Saint Maria comes alive at night, with door to door dinning and fun, and the hostel open straight into it. It’s easily accessable to town centre, busses, the cable car, museums and the botanical gardens. And best of all: cake! Freshly baked everyday, free for all just waiting to be eaten in the kitchen, looking out onto a beautiful courtyard area where you eat your breakfast. This is a lovely hostel, I would encourage anyone visiting this beautiful place to stay here.

Staying in a dorm in a hostel obviously wasn't going to be the same as staying in a 5star hotel but the hostel was clean and very friendly and there was a wonderful cake in the kitchen every day. Staying in a dorm is a great way to meet other travellers from all over the world. Only downside is that it can be noisy as it is on a street full of restaurants so worth purchasing earplugs from reception.
