Service in the dining room was uneven, slow and haphazard. The place looks tired and timeworn. This could be our last stay at the Hioll Club.

Dated and shopworn condition. Dining room service uneven and meals are delivered haphazardly to the table, including burnt offerings.

The Hill Club is an amazing place....like a real old school country club but without the arrogance! We had a really nice room. Dinner in their fantastic dining room with very attentive service. The location is an easy walk to the centre of Nuwara Eliya and not to forget their spectacular gardens!!

A very interesting stay, perfect approach to the property, amazing gardens, manicured lawns, once inside the building is stuck in a time warp trying to maintain the grandure of a hundred years ago - no locals allowed in, breakfast served at the table, dress for dinner. The rooms are again representative of a by gone time, nothing quite matches, my room safe didn’t work and even when reported to management wasn’t repaired - there is no air conditioning. Overall if I was given the option to stay here again I would have to decline.

Beautiful gardens, lovely place and comfortable stay. Breakfast is English style. Those of us who are used to American or Continental breakfast will not be too happy with what is served here. Barring this everything is great here.

We loved the faded glory of this wonderful old hotel . It retains a real authenticity as the public areas haven’t been modernised . Yes they are a little tatty round the edges but adds to the atmosphere. The rooms are upgraded however and very comfortable . Lovely breakfast , beautiful gardens to sit in with your afternoon tea , exceptionally friendly and helpful staff , special mention to Ravi . A wonderful experience

Beautiful colonial hotel situated in the middle of Nuwara Eliya. The gardens were stunning and beautifully kept. The hotel was like a step back in time - not for those looking for a modern hotel - but the hotel was beautifully kept. My only comment would be that the bed was squeaky! Dinner in the fine dining room was a real experience with a large diverse menu and wine list. Yes you have to dress up but that is part of the whole experience and was one of my favourite nights so far. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive - maybe too much so at times. They would check on us every five minutes but it was really lovely to see that they cared.

Lovely colonial hotel. The setting was amazing. The gardens were beautiful and I’m sure will win the award this year as well. The atmosphere was great, with two snooker tables. The photographs all over the property were really interesting and kept me busy for hours. Food was good - breakfast was cooked to order- a real change from buffet style. We stopped for lunch at the golf club which was just at the bottom of the gardens. Really loved this place so were even happier to find this lovely hotel was even better.

Old world traditions of the Raj and a more genteel style of hospitality combined to make our stay at Hill Club a delightful experience. Our friends from Tampa, FL who accompanied us also gave high marks for its ambiance, service, food and authenticity. We will return in a heartbeat.

The Hotel is well located and you can notice what it use to be. But there are some things like a cheap hotel, like the menu or breakfast menu, plastic. The staff is not very nice, and they charge you everything in the spot, including the acommodation. A twin bed for them is a doble bed so you have it in mind.

The hotel building is absolutely beautiful with retained old features. The staff are so warm and welcoming and made our stay really enjoyable. The surrounding area isn't that exciting but Horton Plains isn't far away and we had a great time having high tea and enjoying the hotel itself. There is also the incredible dining experience wearing dinner jackets (hotel provides these for free)

This Hotel was like stepping back in time, it has a billiard room, a reading room, formal dining room. We had dinner in the formal dining room on the first evening, and have never laughed so much at all the men dressed up in their jackets and ties (borrowed from the hotels collection) whilst wearing 'vans' or 'walking shoes' on their feet:) A unforgettable experience in a pleasant hotel

This is an old hotel with old furnishings but given what is available in Sri Lanka, not bad.

This was something totally new for me. I have never truly experienced anything like this before. This old building from the 1870s is something you should try out. Our waiter Benedict made the night spectacular, we got drinks served at the fireplace while we decided on what we were having for dinner, the food was excellent and it was two marvelous evenings, everything just flow so smoothly and it was such a pleasant stay. A must try to get the feeling of old British colonial relic. I did not think places like this existed any more.

It was a great experience. The décor and food was incredible and it did feel like you were an old colonialist. Staff were wonderful but the room was a bit tired and in need of an update

Service terrible- no one once asked how our stay was. We were asked to move from a particular bar with no reasoning. Bar prices are extortionate for Sri Lanka (£3 a beer). Pillows and towels were dirty in our room. Room was dated. I understand it's colonial but this was just old and un loved. Breakfast service was slow, made mistakes and food was bland.
