My stay at Duke Romana in Bucharest was, without exaggeration, one of the most stressful and disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The entire process felt like a bad joke that kept getting worse. First, the check in system is a nightmare. Everything is done online through an overly complicated, multi-step process that assumes you’re not just computer literate, but practically an IT specialist. And even if you are, it doesn’t matter — because their software doesn’t work properly. I wasted HOURS just trying to check in because the system kept failing. Nothing smooth, nothing intuitive, nothing functional. After all that frustration, I finally received two access codes — one for the main door and one for the room. Guess what? Neither code worked. Not one. So, there I was, standing outside like an idiot, calling their so called “support,” because this hotel has zero staff on-site. No reception, no human presence, no one to help you in person. Everything is done through online messages, which is absurd for a hotel in the capital city of Romania. And here comes the most ridiculous part: when I finally reached someone on the phone, I was told they do not speak Romanian. Let me repeat that — a hotel in Bucharest, Romania, told me they only speak English and French, but NOT Romanian. I was born in Romania, I speak the language, and I still couldn’t communicate with the staff of a hotel operating in the country’s capital. It’s like checking into a hotel in the U.S. and being told, “Sorry, we only speak Chinese and Arabic, not English.” Completely unacceptable. This raises a serious question: What is a Romanian guest supposed to do if they don’t speak English or French and aren’t tech savvy enough to navigate this broken digital check in system? The answer is simple — they’re out of luck. And that is shameful. As for the hotel itself: dirty, cramped, outdated, and poorly maintained. Nothing about the physical space made up for the chaos of the check in process. Overall, I do not recommend this hotel at all. Avoid it. Choose a normal hotel or even a basic motel where an actual human being greets you, helps you, and doesn’t require you to be a computer expert or a multilingual acrobat just to enter your room. Duke Romana is the perfect example of how NOT to run a hotel.

Great location, good internet. Clean room but poor carpet havent seen brush very very long time 😊. You check out but Storage room at 3th floor no cameras and no lockers....quite unserious aporoach. Service is not just to give passcode for doors or reply to questions...its little bit more. Worth for the money , but wouldnt come again.

Unless you're desperately trying to save a few dollars, don't book this hotel. While it had a huge amount of problems, I will start with the positives and follow up with the negative aspects: Pros: Bed seemed clean, Clean towels and bedding, Cleaning staff were very nice!, Mini fridge was decently sized and cold, Bathroom sink and counter were clean, Bathroom mirror was large, Eventually staff was quick to reply via WhatsApp. Cons: Shower and shower head had black mold spots throughout (see photos), Bathroom fan broken/room had little ventilation and was stuffy, Carpet was disgusting (see photos), Self-check in was a disaster (the booking # provided in our confirmation email was wrong; only option was to contact hotel via WhatsApp), Front door had technical issues halfway through our stay, Printed paper note was taped to the front door stating that access codes might randomly be changed, No front desk staff, Restaurant was never open. While it's location is perfect, it's a shame that this once elegant property has fallen into such disarray with regards to maintenance and staffing.

Not a good experience. I booked 3 nights in this hotel and arrived around 11 pm, but there was no one at the reception. The hotel felt completely empty, closed and almost derelict. I had not received any access code prior to my arrival, so I was unable to enter. I had to call multiple times before they finally sent me a link to fill in my details and complete the check-in. Only after that did I receive the room number, the room code, and the main entrance code. The whole process took nearly 3 hours. In addition, the access codes are changed from time to time without any notification. Each time I left and came back, the code was no longer valid, and I had to call them again to get the new one. This was very stressful, especially after a long day, as I constantly had to rely on calling support just to access the hotel. There is no staff available on site to assist, and no clear instructions are provided either in advance or on arrival. Overall, the experience was very inconvenient and poorly organized.

They are literally mocking their customers. I do not recommend this place under any circumstances! They call themselves a “smart hotel,” but that is not true at all. After 4:00 PM, there is no employee in the hotel. We were three people with separate reservations and we couldn’t get into our rooms. We didn’t receive the correct virtual key by email, and we waited two and a half hours before the hotel staff responded, even though there was a phone number at the reception desk and they assured us of 24/7 support. That was not the case—no one answered the phone or messages, and we just had to wait there. It was especially frustrating because I was traveling with my 7-year-old child, and at 10:00 PM we were still waiting for someone to respond. The hotel only replied after we contacted Booking. In the meantime, more tourists kept arriving and told us they had the same issue. One guest even waited four hours for a response from the hotel. A complete disgrace. Avoid this hotel!
