The staff were incredibly nice even with a bit of a language barrier but we figured it out. The area is quiet and peaceful. The room was so cute and the building. It was a bit far from Kyoto but it was nice escape after a long day. And public transport was close by (10 min walk). Loved my experience and would definitely return and recommend.

Nearly authentic Japanese style B&B. Everything old felt so “new” by excellent upkeeps. Staff was friendly and helpful in every way.

The traditional Japanese room with a separate toilet was perfect for myself travelling solo. The room was immaculately clean and extremely quiet. The bed cover was fluffy and soft although the mattress was a bit thin for me. The full breakfast was delicious and the staff were thoughtful.

Almost felt like I had the whole place to myself. The room I was in was massive for one person. Formtbhr bathroom, the restroom , to the dining area everything felt spacious and bette than staying at a chain hotel. The breakfast was so good and the space was so clean. would stay again.

Lovely, restored old house. There's a pay parking lot across the street and it's walking distance to Miidera temple and the waterfront. Great breakfast.

Wonderful! This B&B is in a restored old store. The pictures do not do it justice. Breakfast was delicious. Room was spacious with soft and fluffy blankets. If you are worried about the shower/tub in another area, I did not have a problem. They are very clean. Little notes about different parts of the house adds to the lore of the area and the building. I would stay again if in the area again. You should stay if given the chance.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Inase Otsu Machiya B&B. The english-speaking staff was exceptionally helpful and accommodating, recommending nearby restaurants and pointing out the local attractions. This is perhaps what I remember most about this place. The twin-room was large by Japanese standards and featured a a sink and restroom. The shared shower and bath were located downstairs. The 2 beds were quite comfortable - both consisting of large tatami mats raised a foot or so above the floor. The B&B is on a quiet side street and was able to sleep well every night. About a 5 min walk to Lake Biwa Port and a 15 min walk to JR Otsu station; from there 10 min (2 stops) to Kyoto Station. In addition to usual convenience stores the is a supermarket nearby. Hope to return someday if I am in the area.

Inase Bed and Breakfast is a family run establishment at Otsu near Kyoto (Japan). It is a 2017 renovation of an old building. Inase aims to offer a traditional Japanese experience and does it extremely well. My partner and I chose the "western style" room. It was lovely. However, older visitors may find the absence of anywhere to sit a bit of a problem. The "seats" are Japanese style which means a chair with no legs that sits on a mat. The beds are western style but perhaps a little harder than a western visitor would be used to, The staff are extremely friendly and speak good English. A free Japanese breakfast is part of the tariff. Breakfast patrons sit on the floor but there is a "bar" for international visitors who can order a "western style" breakfast if preferred. Parking could be problem but Inase is very close to public transport in the form of the Keishin line from Kyoto that runs down the street in Otsu. This unusal feature attracts railway enthusiasts from Japan and around the world.

Staying at Inase was absolutely without the doubt, the best place my friend and I stayed during our entire 2 weeks in Japan. Not only was Miki-san and Rie-san super sweet and welcoming, but the lovely area we stayed in was so peaceful. We were the only tourists there in Ōtsu it seemed, but we felt so incredibly comfortable, we were truly so saddened when we had to leave. If anyone is considering this accommodation, I absolutely implore you to stay. It is also only a short train ride to Kyoto station also. Even now my friend and I miss our little room, fluffy futons, local bathhouse and our strange (to us) high tech toilet that welcomed us whenever we opened the door to it.

Inase is beautifully renovated, clean and comfortable. Awesome staff who went out of their way to be helpful during our 5 night stay. Close to a large supermarket, convenience stores and restaurants. About a 15 minute walk to the station, 2 stops from Kyoto. We enjoyed staying away from the tourist crowds in Kyoto yet being close enough to do our Kyoto sight seeing. There is also lots to see and do in Otsu. We stayed in a Japanese style room, bedding surprisingly comfortable, the room spacious and well heated for the cold weather. Loved the Japanese breakfast every morning, hot shower or hot tub bath after a long cold day out, would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Room is very tidy, common area is very comfortable, the staff is very nice and helpful. A Lawson is located just 5 minutes walk at north. Walk a little bit towards south east you may find more restaurants near JR station.
