Flexible arrival and departure - while we could have collected/dropped off the keys at tea room, there’s a key safe available if arriving later/departing earlier. Tidy cottage with comfortable beds. Perfect location for The Roaches and a nice choice of restaurants not far away in Buxton, if you prefer to eat out.

The location was simply perfect. The level of communication and helpfulness from the host was 1st class. Cake and milk provided made a stress free first evening. The property is well laid out and welcoming. Great base for walks would highly recommend

We’ve stayed in the other property and that seemed to be abit more updated than this one. It advertised as having internet but as property is so remote and thick cottage stone we couldn’t get any internet. Also kitchen area may be needs some updating. All in all had a lovely time.

A very pleasant stay in a beautiful area. A good location for walks in the south of the peak district, particularly up to Hen's Cloud and the Roaches, Gradbach Mill and Lud's Church, and a little further away Miller's Dale & Chee Dale gorge. Nice to have a welcoming couple of slices of homemade cake and a jug of fresh milk on arrival. The accommodation was comfortable and had everything we needed. The mobile service (EE) is not the best from within the cottage through the solid stone walls but better upstairs. The TV has all the usual freeview channels. No wifi available.

Had a great 3 night stay at Smithy Cottage . We were family of 5 and using it as a base for Alton Towers . Comfy beds and enough proper beds for all of us . The cottage was well equpped and in lovely setting . Just a shame it was so misty weather when we were there . There were a few cobwebs on the stone walls in the cottage but it added to the character that shouldnt put you off everything else was clean and tidy. There was no wifi which actually made a pleasant change as the kids actually had fun playing charades instead of glued to there phones . The tearoom was lovely too and busy with walkers . We would definately stay here again .

Lovely cottage, I was unsure when booking as there wasn’t photos of all the rooms, however they were all great. The location was perfect, right by The Roaches, great for walks from the door step and close by to other amazing locations in the Peak District. Being so close to the tea rooms was convenient for lunch, and we were near enough to the town of Leek for shops for supplies. Comfortable beds, and the whole place was clean and tidy. Leaving cakes for us was a lovely touch. Thanks for a great stay!

What a hidden gem! Couldn’t have asked for any more from out weekend stay, a clean, cosy, comfortable cottage, with everything we needed and Set in stunning scenery. We are a family of six and came to visit Alton Towers for the weekend, and we couldn’t have picked better accommodation. The hosts were lovely, and a plate full of cake in the kitchen on arrival was very much appreciated by my children after a six hour car journey!! Already thinking of coming back.

Lovely cottage, well stocked with everything you need. You can park right outside the property. Also the views are stunning across the hills. Karen was lovely and left us milk and lovely cake in the fridge as we arrived late. We ate breakfast at the adjoining tea rooms which was really good value and the food was excellent! Tia the guard dog was on hand to meet us and, although very large and vocal, was harmless so you don't need to worry, she's a gentle giant. Would definitely go back.

Absolutely lovely wee rustic cottage with old worldy charm. We stayed in the Smithy cottage which sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. Has electric shower. Hairdryer. Fully equipped kitchen. Iron. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. No wifi I believe but kids just hot spotted from our phones. Cottage was spotless on arrival. Tea and coffee facilities included. Fresh milk and a cake was provided on arrival. A really lovely touch. There is a popular hill climb a short walk away which has lovely views. Met the owner and family on our arrival night and they were extremely friendly. The tea room is right next door for those who wish to have breakfast or lunch there. We stayed here as a family of 5 to visit Alton Towers which was only 25 mins drive away. Would happily stay here again. It's a great find in a lovely location.

We (2 adults, 2 teenagers) have just returned from 3 nights staying at The Smithy. We checked ourselves in as we arrived late in the day, but it was lovely to be greeted by a large plate of delicious cake! The cottage is very cosy, and has some beautiful features. The bathroom and kitchen are a little tired, but if anything this added to the character. The surrounding scenery is stunning, and there are great walks from the doorstep. The adjacent tea shop is also recommended, and we had breakfast here. We would look forward to coming again if we were returning to the area. Also a great base if visiting Alton Towers - which we did on the way here. Photos are views from the windows.
