The rooms are big and look pretty good from far, but the workmanship was shoddy in the first place and poorly maintained, things are starting to get mouldy/ wearing down. 2 out of 3 shower heads in our 3-room villa didn’t work upon arrival. English proficiency amongst the staff varies, depends on your luck, but they will usually grab a colleague with better English proficiency if they don’t understand what it is you want. Service was pretty good until the last morning, when we called room service at 8.20am to ask for more filtered water as we had run out the night before. We were informed that as this was our check out day, we are not entitled to a water topup. 6 occupants and no water, with hours still to check out and the kids had initially wanted another swim before check out, well done Wonderworld, that straight away loses you a star. Free WiFi was also cut off some time during the course of breakfast (before 10am, although it was later restored around 10.50am so maybe it’s just an unstable WiFi network). Room TV was also cut off some time during the course of the morning.
The resort is located at the Northwest side of the island, away from the more (tourist) populated South side. It seems this place is mostly visited by people who intend to visit the Vinpearl amusement park and safari park. Unfortunately we saw many recent poor reviews of the parks upon check in, so we didn’t visit any of these places. The hotel has a nice pool and playground for kids. Kids club looks ok, the fun arts and craft stuff requires separate payment, we have 5 kids in our travel party ranging from 5-10 years old and they all said the free part of the kids club was boring. We visited Grandworld during a weekday when we neeed to buy some necessities but found the place mostly deserted and prices were pretty expensive, and we were continuously bugged by tuk til drivers who wouldn’t take no for an answer, so we left without getting anything. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to visit this part of Phu Quoc.
