I recently spent an entire week at Hotel Accademia during my stay in Bologna, and overall it turned out to be a very comfortable and pleasant experience that exceeded many of my initial expectations.
One of the biggest advantages of the hotel is its location. It is roughly a 15-minute walk from Bologna Centrale railway station while also being quite close to the historic city centre. Most major attractions, restaurants, cafés, the university district, and Bologna’s beautiful porticoes were easily reachable on foot, which made exploring the city extremely convenient.
Before arriving, I was slightly worried that staying near the university area might mean noisy nights — especially because I had experienced this issue before in another university city, Ghent. However, Hotel Accademia completely changed my expectations in this regard. The rooms were impressively quiet thanks to the excellent triple-layered window glasses. Even when the streets outside remained lively during the evening, very little noise entered the room, making it easy to relax and sleep peacefully after long days of exploring Bologna.
For most of the week, I stayed in one of the compact rooms. Although not very large, the room was thoughtfully arranged, clean, and perfectly practical for a solo traveler. Housekeeping maintained the room very well throughout the stay, and cleanliness remained consistently excellent.
If I had to point out one area for improvement, it would probably be ventilation in the compact rooms, which occasionally felt slightly limited during longer periods indoors. Still, this was a relatively minor issue. On the positive side, the washroom area was surprisingly spacious and very comfortable compared to many city hotels.
I also spent one night in a deluxe room, and the difference was immediately noticeable. The room felt much more spacious, brighter, and significantly better ventilated. For travelers planning a longer stay or preferring extra comfort, the deluxe room is definitely worth considering.
Another major highlight was the complimentary breakfast, which remained consistently good throughout the week. Every morning offered a generous and well-organized selection of pastries, breads, cakes, cereals, fruits, juices, coffee, and several Italian breakfast specialties. The quality and variety were genuinely impressive.
What truly elevated the overall experience, however, was the staff. Everyone at the hotel was exceptionally polite, professional, and welcoming throughout the stay. Whether at reception or during breakfast service, interactions always felt warm, respectful, and genuinely helpful. Small gestures of kindness and hospitality often make the biggest difference during travel, and Hotel Accademia succeeded very well in creating that atmosphere.
Overall, my week-long stay at Hotel Accademia was a very positive experience. With its convenient location, peaceful rooms, excellent cleanliness, good breakfast, and highly courteous staff, it is definitely a solid choice for anyone looking for a comfortable stay in Bologna within walking distance of both the station and the historic centre.
