Lovely spot on the river

We loved everything about the Property once we got there but getting there was a nightmare. The traffic was horrible, parking was far away from the hotel so we had to drag our bags to the hotel. It was not easy to locate. Once there is was beautiful!!! The views from the hotel restaurant are fabulous.

Great location and apartment was great as well

The hotel is so lovely! It’s tucked away in an ancient little alley just off of the river (a little hard to find with GPS; just ask). The room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. There was even a gorgeous skylight directly above the bed! (Think sleeping in a lighthouse) with beautiful stone walls. It’s so convenient and I’d definitely stay again. Warning: however, there is no parking and the closest garage was a bit of a haul (~1-1.5km?) so, I just backpacked it instead of fighting with my luggage. It ended up costing >50€ for overnight-4pm.

Excellent hotel and the customer service as well. The view is spectacular and my experience there was amazing. No words to describe the night of Sao Joao there. It was out of this world.

From the moment we booked, the Porto River team was incredibly kind and attentive—offering transportation and assistance with our luggage, which is greatly appreciated given the hotel’s privileged (and somewhat hard-to-reach) location right on the Douro River. Check-in was quick and efficient, and the room… simply one of the best I’ve stayed in anywhere in the world. Overlooking the Douro, the space was impeccably maintained and beautifully modernized. It was spacious and well-designed, with a kitchenette, dining table, comfortable sofa, and four balconies offering breathtaking views. Despite being in a lively area, the reinforced windows kept most of the street noise out, allowing for restful nights. The staff also provided excellent restaurant recommendations, adding a thoughtful personal touch to our stay. I would return to Porto River Hotel without hesitation—highly recommended for anyone visiting Porto.

It was perfect as it always is - honestly the only downside was a guy called Carlos who works in the restaurant who made me put a tip and then when I gave him a decent tip he started negotiating for a higher tip - tipping is not standard in Portugal or anywhere in Europe and I even gave him a good review on another website after he begged me to. It was a shame then for him to insist I tipped him (fine) and then start bartering with me to give him a higher tip like I’m in a bazaar in Istanbul (not fine).

Excellent location friendly staff clean room

I had read in some reviews that the rooms had cockroaches. Our room did. Also, because the hotel is right above several restaurants, our room being on the first floor had a very strong fishy smell. Staff were very friendly and helpful though, and the apartment had all the amenities we needed.

very good service wlking distance for mayor atractions

Booked the River View Suite which turned out to be one of the best spaces we have ever stayed in. It went from the front of the build all the way to the back, it was on the top floor with its own staircase and skylight. Great views, really clean and even though the weekend was really stormy we were cosy in the room. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Looking for an excuse to go back!

We had an awesome stay at the Porto River Aparthotel. We had a one bedroom unit with a living/kitchen room. It was spacious for the 2 of us. The hotel is right on the riverfront. The breakfast was delicious, partly buffet and also could order eggs or pancakes. There was sparkling wine and fresh juice. The best thing about the hotel are the staff. They went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating your every need, whether it was for dinner recommendations or reservations. The hotel owner, Manuel Almeda, is a lovely gentleman. He couldn’t speak much English but would always get someone to interpret. He was always asking if we were happy about the hotel and our stay there. They have a wonderful restaurant adjacent to the hotel and we ate a few dinners there (Chez Lapin). Delicious and plentiful as well as reasonable cost for a premium location. The owners daughter, Alexandra oversees the restaurant and helps the staff there. We had a great waiter, Andre. At the front reception Ricardo, Pedro and Ariana were always ready to help us with our questions. The hotel Manager, Andrea, really made our stay special. She made us feel like we were friends. Her motto was, “we don’t have guests, we have friends”. We really couldn’t have had a better place to stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. If you do have physical limitations it would be important to advise the hotel so they could put you in a suitable room as some rooms are only accessible by stairs.

The hotel is right on the water, with a lot going on outside during the day and evening. Hotel staff were very helpful. The room was superb.

The riverside balcony rooms were excellent for absorbing the views and street life. The apartments were nice but had no view.
