This location was ideal for us because of its remote location. We had no difficulty with accessibility to it, because the hotel offered complimentary shuttle service to and from the local train station if you pre-arranged it in advance. Food was locally sourced and exceptional in quality. The outdoor baths were relaxing as they were set among the forest. Loved the friendliness of the staff. We had no problem communicating in Japanese but did find some of the Indian staff speaking English with us difficult to understand. This accommodation was perfect for a brief respite after the Nakasendo trail.

This ryokan was beautiful with a spacious room and great mountain views. The onsen was particularly nice with indoor and outdoor mineral baths, a cold plunge, and a sauna. There was also a private shower in our room if you aren’t interested in the onsen experience. The half board was good but served traditional local Japanese food - great for the adventurous eater but it may not be for everyone. Though I found enough familiar things to feel full at dinner and breakfast. It was a special place, great for relaxation but probably not appropriate for children. We wished we had more days there to soak in the natural surroundings and just relax.

The location for this property in the mountains is absolutely stunning. We drove up and found it easily. The room was such a delight. It was well looked after the beds were very comfortable. The view was amazing. There was a lovely coffee lounge with a beautiful view which we didn’t use, but was well equipped. We were lucky enough to use the fly on. Both of our dinners and breakfast was absolutely delicious. It was an amazing experience with the thoughtful presentation with so many Japanese style dishes. We really enjoyed the dining room which made it feel like your own private room. The staff were all really friendly and spoke English. The menu is on the two nights were different so we got to sample so much different food which was beautifully prepared.

There is daily pickup from kiso fukushima stations 1530 1630 n 1730 hrs n departure 1000. Facility looks great! I was wow-ed upon arrival. The room is very huge and spacious with full amenities. There is even a private onsen (1 time slot given) which is unique. The public onsen has booth indoor n outdoor. The dining experience is fantastic. You hace your own traditional Jap room. Food is very nice There is a dedicated stargazing platform qhich is great though i was there solo and not so conducive to stay long coz seemed scary lol. Hotel not very responsive

The lounge are was very nice as well as the public onsen. We were disappointed with the breakfast and dinner—tastes very subpar. The private onsen also disappointing…..you cannot view the stars as advertised since it is enclosed, the onsen is not from a natural hot spring. The rooms are dated. Value for money is lacking.

Some really nice amenities (like the private bath up the hillside—don’t forget to slide the window open so you get that hot bath in the forest experience, the lounge with coffee and tea and nice windows). And some really lovely service (thanks Adi!). Nice place to relax after doing the nakasendo way between Magome and Tsumago.

We’ve just spent two wonderful nights, here, and everything has been perfect. The hotel is miles from anywhere so you either need a car or use the hotel shuttle bus to ferry you to and from the nearest station. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The highlight was the traditional Japanese meals served in a private dining area. Every course (they kept on coming) is a wonderful new ‘taste surprise’. We also hired the private Onsen, for an hour; another new experience. If you like being well looked after and being away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, this is for you!

I stayed two nights here to see magome and tsumago. The hotel was the best hotel of my trip in Japan offering traditional japanese breakfast and dinner as well as a wonderful onsen. The staff was incredible and kind helping me even though I cannot speak Japanese. I cannot recommend this Hotel enough if you are planning on visiting this part of the Nakasendo Trail.

Interesting remote location with shuttle bus service to/from Tsumago and Nagiso, but only at 910 and 950am and 410 and 510 pm. The amenities did not seem to be of a good quality as at other inns in this range. The kaiseki meal seemed less sophisticated than I've had, perhaps because it did use all local ingredients, including deer, horse and ayu fish. However the meal did include excellent wagyu beef for at-table grilling. Dinner is served in private sections in the banquet hall, not in the room.. Overall, a satisfactorily quiet, restful, comfortable place to stay.

Excellent ryokan set in the woods. Charming ambience and good food. A few kms from Tsumago so handy for the Magome-Tsumago walk (the hotel has shuttle to and from Tsumago and Nagiso station but it is best if you have your own car. The only gripe is that there is no English language TV - a bit surprising since much of the clientele is overseas visitors.

We ended up here at the end of a long hike as most of the people and decided to stay here in the mountains for the weekend. It’s the only place to eat for dinner and you need to reserve the dinner in advance. I reserved my dinner but I discovered on the day they informed they didn’t read the email properly and we were left with no option than a curry dinner, like if they buy every day just about what’s needed. No apologies, nothing at all. They charge you for every single thing like an extra towel, you don’t have choices for dinner lunch etc, just what they have and you have to eat it or you starve. Same thing happened for breakfast, we asked about it the night before but no, they didn’t have any ingredients to prepare breakfast the day after. The place is expensive, overrated, a bit old, with mould on the walls, futon are old and not comfortable, the whole place needs some refurbishment. I would never stay on this hotel again. Only positive thing is the natural surroundings: beautiful, and the onsen: very good. Don’t waste your money here.

This is a great small hotel in the mountains 20 mins away from Nagiso train station. Stayed in the European-style room with the family for one night as part of the Tsumago/Magome trip. Very clean, well designed property, The Japanese breakfast was tasty with the allergies taken into account at preparation. Couple of things to keep in mind - since the property is small, it does not have a 24/7 kitchen, so if you arrive late it is not possible to get any food (bring your own), also you’d need to let the hotel know in advance if you want to have breakfast. On the plus side- the hotel’s own onsen (thermal spring) is open 24x7, and it has great indoor and outdoor facilities,
