This inn is an ideal stopover for Shilin Stone Forest and Juixiang Caves. To access the inn, take high speed train from Kunming to Shilin. On arrival at Shilin Train Station, catch bus #99 outside the station and get off in front of Shilin Yizu Number 1 Gate. Ride costs RMB10 per person. The inn is only a short walk from the gate. The inn-keeper, Mrs Wan, is a lovely lady - very caring and shows lots of concern for her visitors. Every Fri evening, there is a gathering of people at the town square for a free for all traditional folk dances and music featuring different tribes in their costumes. There's even a bon fire at the middle of the square. From the inn, bus #99 goes onward to the entrance of Shilin Forest. We were very glad to have stayed at the Shilin Family Folk Inn for 2 nights, rather than visiting the forest and caves from Kunming.

Great place to stay! Staff can speak a little bit of English but was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. However, do keep in mind that the hostal is located in an area where people are growing their own vegetables and raising their chickens outside of their houses, so it is normal to hear roosters crowing very early in the morning. Every Tuesday and Friday from 9 pm to about 11 pm the locals dance in a plaza nearby the hostal, I highly recommend this! (Ask the lady, Ms. Wang, about this and also other things to do. She is very nice!)
