This former insane asylum promises to be a great, modernized hotel. All a lie. Everything is dark and dingy, with tiny rooms resembling a prison. Worse, the supposedly glamourous grounds are in disrepair and most of the adjacent buildings are genuine mental health facilities, all in the midst of a run-down neighborhood.

Property was nice on current renovation. However, the phone system and staff were not available.

The hotel is an interesting building but the current management should either commit to running it as a hotel or give up. The “breakfast” that was served was on dirty linens that didn’t fit the table and consisted of some wrapped vending machine type pastry and decent coffee. The front desk reception was not attentive to an arriving customer with a reservation. The decor in the hallways and entrance is not consistent with the period of the hotel and the signage is awful. The rooms themselves are beautiful. The hotel needs management that cares.

Came for the architecture, which is amazing. $300 a night and was smaller than a European Hotel No way that was a queen bed. No fridge. Breakfast awful, no I mean really awful. Starbucks on campus does not open till noon and no where else close to get coffee. Good Italian across the street for dinner. No one at the desk when we checked out, a phone number for service rang at the front desk. They refused to email me a receipt. Stayed there last year, I will not stay again but I doubt it will be open.

This historical building was beautiful. The bed was so comfortable as soon as my head hit the pillow i was out! It was great for a romantic night away with my husband.

What is most unique about this property that I was unaware of before staying was that 100 years before it was established as a state mental asylum until it shut down in 1974. That gave me and my husband a bit of the heebie jeebies when we got there to be honest. We also noticed a weird hospital sort of antiseptic/cotton gauze bandage smell that seemed to permeate the halls no matter where we walked. The architecture inside was absolutely beautiful and outside it was huge, sprawling and awe-inspiring. Parts of the property buildings are run down and not usable at the moment. So it is decidedly the most unique property I have ever stayed at. It was within walking distance to a concert that the 2 of us went to see, so it was very convenient from that standpoint. Also, the service staff were all very attentive and cordial, and the onsite restaurant had delicious food with fast service. The beds were comfortable and again, it was just a very unique experience we didn't expect before we walked in there. I probably should have done a little reading on the history of the property before booking. Just be aware if that's anything that concerns anyone planning to stay there.

The property itself is quite unique. I have put relatives here 5X. Unfortunately, the hotel is soon likely to be two-star. Lack of room cleaning. I had family in 2 rooms, 1 Cleaned daily, the other never touched. Makes NO sense. Sunday brunch was lovely. Monday morning breakfast, NO MILK. Coffee, NO MILK. Dry cereal with no milk. My 88 year old Dad was like, they must be having $ troubles. In a real hotel, someone would have run to TOPS or Wegman's. Where is the hotel leadership/management? On the way out, at the front desk on a Monday morning there was NO service. It is hard to critique service, when there is NO service to critique. There was a horrid smell near the elevator exit. Was told it was the grease trap. UGH! Who wants to get off the elevator and smell cesspool like odor? The rooms were far enough away to be malodorous free Not sure I will put my family up here when they visit in the future.

The “free” breakfast was pitiful and the room was not serviced. I get no fresh towels but I would have expected at least the garbage to be emptied and the bed made. I paid 315 per night and feel that it was not at all worth it. Very disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay here. The building is massive. You could spend hours just looking around at all of the architecture and discovering the nooks and crannies of this place. The entire building was immaculate. Jessica helped to check us in. She was friendly and helpful. There was a limited Continental breakfast available. It was a comfortable stay overall. What a great experience in this historical place!
