We enjoyed our stay at the Black Bull. Our room was warm and comfortable with a lovely little balcony overlooking the car park and the hills in the distance. Our dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the service throughout our stay, consistently warm and helpful. A good base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, close to the lakes and dales.

The Black Bull is a lovely hotel with amazing food. We had a tomahawk steak between two that was hands down the best steak I’ve ever had in the UK (I love in the US where good steak is plentiful, but hard to find in UK restaurants). The service in the restaurant was very good. The car park has a very tight entrance alley off a very narrow street (Main Street) and is a challenge to turn into for a large car (we had an SUV). The hotel is dog friendly but not very disabled friendly. Lots of small flights of stairs with no railings, no lift/elevator, and no grab bars or anti slip surfaces in the walk in shower that was in my 84 year old, mobility challenged mother’s room. Regarding comfort, the cleaning staff turn the heat down and open all the windows during the day while they clean, including in the rooms, and the heating turns back on at 5:30. We returned back to cold rooms both days we were there because the heating comes on at 5:30. When this was commented on to the head cleaner (i.e. my mother had to get under the covers fully clothed to get warm in her room) he was quite rude and argumentative about it, which is a black mark on the hotel for service in my opinion. Note that the town of Sebergh is closed on Sundays except for the wonderful Fairfield Mill, a must visit for the history, artists goods for sale and the good food in the cafe (awesome cheese scones!). Nearby Dent is picturesque and the tiny Stone Close Cafe there is highly recommended!

Plushest hotel in the small village of Sedbergh. Rooms have been recently refurbed to the highest quality. Could do with Nespresso machines rather than a cafetière to make life easier. Entry to parking is a test to driving skills. Beware, especially if you drive a 4x4

Entrance to hotel car park very restrictive and would be good to know about that before you arrive. Dog charge expensive compared to most (£25). Dinner menu innovative but may not suite all Breakfast selection bit disappointing. All in all would stay again

Wonderful 2 night stay in the Black Bull. We stayed in Room 1, which was large, had the comfiest bed and bath plus a large shower. It is at the front of the building, but we didn't find noise a problem What makes it special is the most delicious food cooked by Nina Matsunaga - worth going out of your way for. Nothing is rushed, service efficient, and friendly It was a very special stay, in a lovely little town surrounded by glorious countryside. I wish this was on my doorstep!
