The location was good, nestled in the moor in a small village, complete with shop, river and old bridge: very Devon! We wish that we could say that the pub food in our Inn was good; it wasn't. Overpriced, bland and in the case of the vegetables, undercooked even beyond a fashionable crunch. 'Raw' comes to mind. The pub public areas were shut at 9pm and the staff went home. We actually felt rather abandoned! In all, not a good experience

The Royal Oak Inn is situated in a lovely area. It was easy for us to park. On arrival which was somewhat late, there was no one to look after us. I got the attention of someone in the kitchen who alerted the manager. We were given our room key and on arrival in the room I noticed that there was quite a bit of hair in the sink and some in the bathtub as well. I mentioned it to the manager and when we returned to our room after dinner, which was delicious, the hair in the sink was gone. The bathtub was not 100% but it was better. Although I like a soft bed, these beds are so soft that they were uncomfortable. When we woke up my daughter was covered in bites and I had a couple as well. It seems that they were spider bites. I will say that the chef in the morning was wonderful and made us the most delicious breakfast and the manager was very sweet as well. It did not make up for the several days of extreme discomfort due to the bites.

Nice welcome ,nice room(couple of cobwebs, but they appear from nowhere),nicebathroom, comfortable bed. This is a country pub not a holiday inn so ecpect uneven floors and wooden windows etc. Every effort was made to make us comfortable. The only down side of the weekend was a customers pair of dogs although friendly a little unwelcome sniffing around our legs and under the dinner table and perhaps the languish of one or two of the shall we say more boisterous locals was a little ripe, but weve all been there

A great welcome, very friendly, lovely, comfy, spacious room. Mouth watering meals and great choice of drinks. Although we had a lovely Valentine meal, we were in the public bar, next to the bar which was a bit noisy, table in the restaurant would have been preferred for a bit more privacy. Still we had a wonderful stay.

This was a difficult place to find, parking is hit and miss in their car park (on street parking available but narrow lanes) arrived at very busy time, so staff not as attentive, just handed key and had to ask where to go (then shown). Issues with tv, but staff came to sort out, but problem reoccurred (managed to sort out ourselves) Hot water in bathroom needs a warning sign as it was almost scalding and could be a danger to children. Didn't realise rooms above the bar, so noisy for a while, but finished at reasonable time. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and very tasty, service was good too. Dont expect to much with the decor, as it is an old property. Cleanliness was certainly a priority. Overal happy with stay, the staff work really hard. Would stay again.
