We chose Last Luz Hotel based on what appeared to be reasonable reviews, however our experience was extremely disappointing. There was no hot water in the shower, and the Wi-Fi did not work in the rooms, which was a major inconvenience. The linen and towels were visibly stained, which is unacceptable for any hotel. Our booking included a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, which was never provided. I raised this issue four separate times with reception, and each time was told they were “speaking to the reception manager, Elso Lopes.” Despite this, there was no follow-up, no communication, and no resolution. Breakfast was also very poorly managed. We arrived at 7:00am and asked for eggs, only to be met with a rude response stating we would need to wait. We were happy to do so, however by 8:00am there were still no eggs, at which point we left without eating. Overall, the service was hostile and unwelcoming. Staff did not smile, appeared disengaged, and gave the impression they did not want to be there. Basic hospitality and customer service standards were not met. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel

We stayed in a ground-floor room. The laminate flooring was already swollen from the damp and smelled musty. The patio door couldn't be locked. The shower cubicle didn't have a sliding door. There were plenty of towels, and everything was clean. The beds were good, and although the air conditioning could be adjusted, it seemed to make hardly any difference. Breakfast was okay; scrambled eggs cost an extra €1. We only stayed one night (€122). The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the staff was friendly.

I stayed here for one night before catching a flight to another island. At €100 per night – the most expensive rate I’ve paid on Cape Verde – it was a huge disappointment. As a Gold Member on Expedia, I was promised a bottle of sparkling wine, which was missing. Instead, my room came with a cockroach (photo attached). Maybe it drank the wine for me. The air conditioning didn’t work, the shower drain was clogged, and mosquitoes thrived in the stagnant water. Housekeeping seemed questionable too – the first thing I saw was a squished mosquito smeared on the wall. When I asked for another room, the night porter said the hotel was fully booked. For one night, it’s manageable, but for this price, you’d expect better. Breakfast was fine, though I never got my omelet after waiting 30 minutes. The cockroach, however, met its end and became a feast for ants by morning. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel – it’s way overpriced and feels too "eco-friendly" for comfort.

Organised an airport transfer but no one came to collect, luckily there was a night guard who could still check us in and we did get a free upgrade. Also extending the stay was very easy. Location is good very near the beach and room condition was great also. Would recommend

Nice enough hotel just a short walk to the centre of the town. First night there was a loud buzzing from electricity box that kept me up all night. That was sorted the next day. I had 2 VIP Gold offers on my account. They failed to provide either of them. Didn’t receive a bottle of sparkling wine on checkin. Indeed they charged me €2 for a bottle of water. I was also entitled to free late checkout. They refused unless I paid €25 (so there was obviously availability). The shower seems to run out of hot water by 9am. So I couldn’t shower before checking out. It’s ok for the price, but might be worth ignoring any Gold benefits offered (you won’t get them) and paying a bit more to stay somewhere else.

Great and modern little hotel. Centrally located and within a short walk from most restaurants, beach, bars, and main street

The property is very clean and well staffed. It is quiet day and night yet only a short walk to the restaurants, beaches and souvenir shops of Santa Maria.

Breakfast spread was really scanty. On my last morning we literally only had bread, egg, cheese. No bacon, no sausages, no cereal, no fresh juice, no yoghurt I couldn’t sit in my ground floor room balcony because water from the AC units in the top rooms was channeled to my balcony. Disgusting.

Lovely stay! Clean, modern, beautiful hotel. Lovely location, close to the beach and some great restaurants but out the way enough that you feel like one of the locals. Really happy friendly staff, from reception, kitchen to house keeping. Everyone says good morning and couldn’t help you enough! Towels were provided everyday, aircon worked beautifully, shower was lovely, beds really comfy. I can’t fault our stay if I tried. And I would definitely consider staying again!

I stayed at Hotel Da Luz for a week, the hotel has been recemtly refurbished to a high standard, my room was clean and kept clean throughout the week. The staff were attentive and helpful, ordering me taxis when needed and answering my questions. Breakfast was a fairly standard continental one but for the cheap price i paid for they stay was better than expected. Angulo beach bar is just a few minutes away where you can hire paddle boards and windsurfers etc, swim or just chill at the bar. I would recommend this hotel, very good value for money and would definately stay there again.

The hotel manager (I think) was very accommodating for us as a family with a toddler - welcoming, helpful and flexible. The hotel staff in general were polite and friendly, though some reception staff could perhaps be a little more helpful with information (directions, local recommendations, taxi information). No specific issues though, we generally had a very pleasant stay. Although there were still some snagging issues from recent renovations these would be expected from any renovation works and staff were very quick to resolve issues so I have no complaints at all. The hotel facilities were very good and various spaces welcoming, clean and relaxing - pool, lobby, dining room, etc. I'd highly recommend this hotel, and I hope we return!

Value for money, helpful staff, it is quite close to the centre of santa maria and the beach and I would go back to the hotel without a second thought.
